Bipolar adoptive mom?

Hi everybody!
I would like to know if it is possible to adopt if I am on disability for bipolar disorder. My work history is not good, but I am stable. I can get a doctor's note. I am in Orange County and I'm afraid to even try for adoption. I'm afraid they will laugh me right out of the office.

I wish I could help you more on this one. It all depends on the agency, county you are going to be adopting through. I would suggest to call them up and speak to someone about your health issues.

medical issues and adoption approval

Hi shellybelly - My husband and I were also concerned about being approved since I am on medication for anxiety and my husband had some alcohol related issues many years ago, but we got through the home study and our doctor's gave written reports of approval and we are currently awaiting a placement. If adoption is something that is truly in your heart, you should talk to a social worker through your county agency. It's the only way you will know. Good luck, let us know how you're doing :-)

Thank you so much We are planning to attend an orientation for Orange County foster/adoption and talk to a social worker. Thank you for the good advice!

It really does depend on the agency. If you can prove that you are stable and can care for the child, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to find an agency that would work with you. I have some chronic health problems and my agency didn't request more information from my doctor aside from the basic physical.
