Birth Certificate
We got my sons birth certificate yesterday. I just think it is weird that they would lose my daughters court certified adoption paperwork. It does say on my sons birth certificate that he is a multiple. Hopefully we get my daughters birth certificate soon.

Strange! How long did it take? We finalized in May, 2007, and still have not received our daugthter's birth certificate yet.

I got my daughters Birth Certificate the beginning of May. Now I am just waiting on their social security numbers. The lady there said it would take a while to get those since they never had SSN, are twins, and are adopted. I cannot believe what we have to go through here in California.

I am very interested in this thread and would love to ask for some advice. My kiddos adoption will be finalized in September. We are in Hawai'i but both kids were born in California, so BC's will be coming from there. I am a little freaked out at all the stories on here where it has taken up to a year to get BC's. Is there anything I can do (besides pray?!
) to facilitate things? I hve an attorney and am planning on asking him if he knows anything. I was really hoping the kids would be able to start the new school year with their new names... Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We finalized our daughters adoption on April 30, 2007, and still have not received the birth certificate. I called in May and was told that it was completed on April 17th, and it would take another 4-6 weeks just to mail it. Well, here we are in June, still nothing. So I called again, and they still have it. Apparently, they are really back logged and short staffed - no really? I think this is absolutely absurd! Over a year! It has been finished since mid April, but no one can send it!?! I am so angry, but what can I do?

Butta,
NADA!!! There is nothing you can do. I'm not sure if your children's new birth certificates will come from here or not. I've been told there's a soft freeze on hiring and overtime, that's what another CA govt worker told me. Thus they only process birth certificates you know from 9 to 5. And really, you know there are some days when they just don't feel like being bothered and aren't really working, which puts us at our current almost year long wait. |

Thanks Yash
That is kind of what I thought, from what I have read on here. But every time I mention it to anyone here (SW, GAL, etc.) they are so sure that that cannot possibly be! that I start to second guess myself... I am sure the BCs have to come from CA since that is where the kids were born and that is where the original BCs are from, right?I was told yesterday by the kids' GAL that I could get a letter the day of finalization, from and signed by the judge that would allow me to go ahead with the name changes at school, etc.. anyone know anything about that? It would truly suck if the kids had to wait almost 3 years for finalization and then another year or more for their new names to be in effect!

Sorry can't be helpful with the school stuff. Jory and Rowan are both babies. WIC and their doctor's office let me change their names without even seeing paperwork. Their daycare was the same.
Maybe you could ask the school now if you can just use the paperwork the judge will give you in order to change their names. That's all I needed in order to add Jory to my insurance policy in his new legal name. |

You get certified copies of the adoption agreement which has their name they were given at birth and their name they have once you adopt them. Also you will get your adoption order(certified also). These should work for the school.

Thanks momofbgtwins, that is what I thought, but it is good to hear it confirmed. My dad keeps saying "You can pay more and have it expidited and get it within a short time", since he had to do that to get a COPY of his BC a few months ago. I tried to explain that this is different since it is not a copy of the original we are waiting for but their amended (sp?) ones...

I have been waiting for 11 months to the day. Still no birth certificates. I don't even know who to complain to. I guess I will have to give me attorney a call.
As for schools, yes we changed their names at school based on the adoption agreement. No problem at all. |

It is taking more than a year for BC in california. We got ours about 3 weeks ago, and it took 15 months. Unbelievable, but again, california, seems to be the state for the longest wait on everything!!!!

15 months?! That's insane. Would writing to our congressmen or senators help do you think?
