So Cal Fost Adopt Wait

My agency just told me that we can expect to wait up to over two years. Our specs were any race, ages 0-5. Does this sound right? She did say miracles can happen and we 'could' get a call in a few weeks, but that over a year is considered normal.

Just curious if you were all told the same.

That doesn't sound right for foster-adopt (maybe adopt only but not foster-adopt). The age range 0-5 is a hard one but the fact that you are open to any race should speed up finding a match.

Perhaps she is wanting you to think this way so that you are not constantly wondering what is taking so long and if you are called it will be a pleasant surprise.

Perhaps she thinks it is better to not get your hopes up but I think she may have overshot the wait time.

we went thru our county as well. We were told could take day to over a year. However when we finiahed out traning they were really in need as there were only 5 approved homestudies on the matchrs desks and the only reason they were still there were because they were really picky people.

We finished home study i think May 19th 07, were approved June 1st and had our son (foster adopt) in our arms June 14th. He was turning 3 months old the next day 15th. and on a good note we just finalized on Friday. He is now 13 months tomorrow.

I think that's what county always says, but not always the truth. They told us (LA county DCFS) that it coull take up to three years to be matched, but a month later after our homestudy was approved, we were matched with a 2 day old baby girl. It was a relatively easy case, mom was not around, but still took us 16 months to finalize.

Yeah, I think they are saying two years so you won't get your homes up. Are you up to either sex, too? If so, I'm sure your wait should be relatively short.

Though when you're waiting for that call a day seems like forever. When I was waiting for the call for my youngest daughter, I was convinced it was taking forever but now in retrospect. I realize I got the first call about her 3 weeks into my wait. And she came home 3 weeks after that so my total wait time was only 6 weeks. But at the time I was sure my SW was holding out on me and purposely not calling or emailing me about a baby.

And by them overshooting the date, the call is a nice surprise and a "shocker." While waiting for my first daughter, I was told not to expect a call for five omonths. It was the week of Thanksgiving so I thought okay so around Easter. Imagine my surprise when the first week of Decemeber I get an eamil from my adoption matcher saying she turned down a referral for me. And then the second week of Decemember she called about a match.

I was so excited, all I heard was baby born on Dec. 13th and that birth mom was white. For some reason, I was afraid if I called back and asked what the sex of the baby was she'd change her mind. So it wasn't until the day before I was too pick my daughter up that I found out for sure she was a daughter. I don't know why I thought she could be a boy, when I specifically asked for a girl. My total wait time for my first daughter from the time I turned in my adoption application to her coming home was 3 months.

I hope your wait is a short one.

Unhappy Also still waiting

We are in the Sacramento area and have been waiting for a fost-adopt placement since early October 2007. Very frustrating for sure. And emotionally draining, every month praying and hoping. We have no children and cannot. This whole County/State system is very discouraging.
