Homestudy questions...

Ive had a homestudy done through my county inorder to become a foster parent(fost-to-adopt) I am curious is it possible to us that homestudy to adopt privately? With an out of state adoption agency(that requires a homestudy) even international adoption? Does anyone know???? TIA!

I am also in Cali and have not been given my home study and we are finishing our third foster adopt adoption. My county waived the fee for the home study, so I do not think that I "own" it. I think that getting a copy for adopting outside of foster care would be almost impossible.

You can't use it for international adoptions. I've tried with my agency and it was a no go. So now I have to fork over $2100 to have a new homestudy done.

I don't know if you can use it for private domestic adoptions, though.

I am in So. California, and we did get a copy of our approved homestudy. I requested and I just needed to sing some paperwork and SW mailed it to us. SW, told me we could use for private agencies, since sometimes those agencies contract with the county for homestudies anyway.

private agency

We had to have a seperate homestudy done through a private agency for our private adoption. We used Vista Del Mar in L.A. (about $1700) Also, be careful - you aren't allowed to persue both at the same time.

If you want to adopt privately, you'll have to pay for the homestudy - whatever the county charges. And, don't expect to be kept on the foster adoption list. We almost adopted privately, but it would have messed us up going through the foster system. We decided to wait and go through the foster system and got placed with a wonderful baby girl.
