My wife and I are seeking adoption through Riverside County. We began our initial classes around March 2003. We have completed all of the requirements including obtaining a foster care license from the state. Our home study was recently completed November 2003.
We are looking into adopting 2 siblings ages 0 to 5 yrs. Our Social Worker stated it may take up to another year before we are matched; however she expects to find a match hopefully within 6 months. We are open to gender, race and are eagerly waiting. It seems like it is taking a long time, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. |

It really depends on what you're looking for... if you want a non-drug affected Caucasian infant, eh, don't hold your breath. If you're more open, especially to older kids, heck, hold on, there's a kid in the near future.
We were matched very quickly (two weeks or so) with really terrific kids - but we will willing to accept two, up to 10 years old. Our FD was 10 years, eleven months and twenty-two days old when they presented her case to us (along with her bi-racial brother). If you're still contemplating, please don't discount the idea of an older child! |

adopting in Ca
Hello,
DH and I are just starting the process of foster-adopt through Lilliput Children’s Services. We are open to a sibling group of 2-3 with ages 0-5, we are open to any gender with mild to moderate medical/emotional issues, we are also somewhat flexible with consideration to race, my DH has some American Indian in him which we hope may help with a quicker placement. So far Lilliput has been great addressing all of our questions and concerns, we have been told once we are finished with our classes and homestudy that placement should not take to long Jen |

Ca. Adoption
Hello, I am new to this site. I live in central CA and I am a single Foster Mom. I have been a FM for 4 years and came into this to strictly Foster and not Adopt. Well......4 yrs later here i am adopting!!! I love it and our adoption should be final by the end of next month. I specialize in the Medically Fragile as I have a medical background. We don't seem to have any trouble finding babies around here if your willing to take Drug Exposed and put up with the VERY SLOW court system. I know of 2 other foster moms that have been doing this for less than a yr and already have the 2 babies they are going to adopt once PRT. I hope to adopt a couple more babes that are Special Needs and are harder to find homes for!! Good luck and know that the children that are "Meant for You" will come to you!!!

I am also from Central CA...Hanford to be exact. We have been fost adopt for 4 years now but had a completed homestudy since September of 2002. We still don't have a match. We are looking for a boy between 0-5 cauc or cauc/hisp mix. Still we wait.

Gosh, Hard to believe that you have had to wait that long. Are you also doing Foster Care? Have you searched any of the Adoption Sites? There are sooo many kids out there looking for homes. What are some of the issues that your family is not willing to deal with in a child? Feel free to e-mail me at KWinddancer@comcast.net if you want
Good Luck It will happen!!

Hello,
It was just a day!!! I was licensed and then went on a 2 wk vacation and the day I returned they called with my first placement. That little guy didn't stay long, but right away they called for another and then 2 months later i got my first 4 pounder!!! And so the story begins!!! I love what I do and plan to continue even after my adoption is final. I am also looking out of state for little ones that are Med/Frag and need a loving home!!

Dh and i are in the process of adopting through Los Angeles County. Enjoying and dreading the experience but in the most has been a good one. Things are half complete and each day it gets closer to being able to bring our child home to be our forever. Can't wait.

? for Winddancer
Winddancer (or anyone else):
I am wondering what kinds of issues you generally have with drug exposed children. I assume it can involve ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities. Any others? Thanks! |

Hello,
Well, there can be a alot of different things!! The ones you mentioned, as well as behavioral, mental health, and developmental delays. You just never know with these little darlins!! Some will show signs of several and some will show signs of none. I know this answer is pretty evasive, but it really is just kind of a One Day At A Time with them!!! There just are no true and fast rules! Don't know if that was any help to you or not.............. Good luck And just know that they are all just a work in progress!!!
