Talking Adopt in California

Hello All, we are new here. We too are from the Fresno California area. We proud parents of six BEAUTIFUL children. Our oldest daughter, 24, is our gift from God thru birth and our youngest five,15,11,10,6 & 3, are all gifts from God thru adoption. We are seeking to adopt again. This is the first time we have actually put restrictions, age wise, for a child, so we know we will be waiting. We are praying for a little boy between the ages of 0-3 years. No racial, development or other restrictions though. We are attending an Adoption Picnic next week so we are very excited. This is actually the way 3 of our children found us. I am really excited to see all of you here and to read your stories. It blesses our hearts to see that others have learned just how special these little ones are. We can't ever imagine not having our little ones in our lives. They all, all 6, have changed our lives for the better. Good luck to you all. You will be in my prayers.

It took us about a year....

We started our paperwork and classes in March of last year (2003). We started actively searching in Sept and found two children (siblings) in Nov. Took us until March to be able to bring them home. One is 1 1/2 one is 6 months. I understand that this is unusually fast though.

Chrissy and Sonni are you in SB county??

I am the fost adopt mom of 2 sibs here in San Bernardino county. We will finalize in November, the kids have been with us for 11 months. Would love to find a "board Buddy" here in San Bernardino county. I am 38, live in Apple Valley, my kids are 5 and 7 (sibs) It has been great and horrible, I have learned a lot along the way, man were we naive!! Hope you all had a great day!

San Bernardino County here

Welcome, Rhonda

Yes, I live in San Bernardino County. We adopted our son through the county and are in the process of adopting again.
We may have a match but have not gone to the presentation meeting yet. We are waiting to find out when we can learn more about this child.

How long did you wait for your match with your sibs? Sonni

Sibs are great!

Rhonda, I forgot to ask.....are your sibs boys, girls, or 1 of each?
We have asked for 1 or 2 boys 0 to 6. found out 2 weeks ago that we are matched with a 3 year old boy. Sonni

? for Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,

You said you were naive (going into this)...I'd love to hear in what ways. Is there anything specific you wish you had known? Or is it that you can't truly imagine what it is like until you go though it? I am also curious what some of the "horrible" times have involved. Just trying to be prepared as I/we possibly can be. Did you start out as a fost-adopt family, or did you foster first?

Congratulations on finding your children and good luck!

Yes, we are matched!

We received official word today from our placement coordinator. We are matched with a 3 year old boy! They are scheduling presentation for the first week of May (hopefully). We sure hope this is the child for us and us for him. I am so excited! We have a 3 year old son whom we adopted so this will be like twins. They are very close in age. Within 7 weeks, I believe. Will keep you all updated. Good luck to the families still waiting, I know how hard it is, having done it twice now. Sonni

Smile new to this!!

We have just started the process of foster/adoption. Working with Olive Crest. So far everything is going well, but then what can go wrong in the begining? I was wondering if anyone had any advice for us? And has anyone worked with Olive Crest? We live in the San Bernardino/High desert area. We were told it would take aprox 3 to 6 months to be ready for placement. Homestudy and everything. Does that sound about right? I talked to someone else a few weeks ago that said it would take about 3 weeks. A big difference in time. Any feed back?? We want this donw right the first time. And heard mega bad stuff about going through the county.

thanks

I live in Kings County we started the whole process in 2000. We have been actively waiting for a match since 2002. My best advice is ...if you don't want to be disappointed many times, don't have expectations! Sounds pretty dismal, huh. That's where I am right now...dismal. I know it will happen sooner or later but boy is it frustrating.

Hey Gwen, it WILL work out. It is frustrating but well worth the wait in the end. We are still waiting for our little boy, but I know he is out there, we just have to play the waiting game. We are waiting to hear on a sib group of two. Their worker sounds promising, but again, God's timing is everything. Good luck to you and to everyone.
God Bless,
Lynn

Hello All

Hi Yes I am back, LOL it seems like forever since I have been on here. Well just wanted to congragulate Sonni and say HI to all the new people. Yes I am from San Bernadino County. I actually live here at Ft Irwin. I am curious to know how long everyone has waited? Someone said on here not to count down the days. I totally agree, if you just go by with your daily activities it will happen in the right time and without many disappointments. Well I wish everyone the best and hope everyone has a happy placement.
