Question Older Child Adoption

My husband and I are currently in our homestudy process and have attended all but the last of our parenting classes. We are working with a highly recommended agency that places children from all California counties. We are considering a child age 3-6 and would love to hear from anyone on how their adoption of a child in this age range from Foster Care went. Smooth or Rough - we want the truth. We would love to get some info from people other than those our agency has provided us to speak with.

Please feel free to contact me directly at my mailbox here as well.

Thanks to all for helping out... again

Also Wondering

Hi all,

I would also love to hear from people who have adopted children in this age range. It would be great to hear specifics about what the first days and weeks were like. Were the children withdrawn, hostile, afraid, etc.? How did the foster/adopted child interact with any children already in the home? Were you adequately informed of any develpmental/behavioral issues?

Thanks for any info!

I am in Oregon and my husband and I adopted siblings. At the time they were placed our daughter was five and her brother one.

While it has been an interesting journy with a little girl who clearly remembers her past--I have found this to be awesome--yes, we have had some real issues and yes, there are concerns but with love and attention...dedication to attachment....and compasion....I believe my daughter and I will have an awesome relationship as the years unfold. It is NOT easy--but, understanding the things a child at this age goes through and remembering that for her the adoption is also a loss we are doing fine.

This website has been a blessing too because even when things are fine there are things that come up. You will find there is great support among the members here who have adopted in this age range.....good luck
