Adoptive parent support Group near San Diego?
Hi,
My husband and I are hoping to adopt. We would like to talk to other adoptive/hoping to adopt couples/parents in the San Diego area. Who knows if there is a support group? Or do we need to start one ourselves?? Thanks for any reply. Jackie |

RESOLVE is a national organization focused on infertility issues, including adoption. They run support groups that might be of interest to you. I checked their website and found the following:
RESOLVE of Greater San Diego,CA PO Box 86543 San Diego CA 92138-6543 619-595-3988 http://www.resolvesd.org support@resolvesd.org Good luck! GailHB in CA. |

Re: Adoptive parent support Group near San Diego?
Hi Jackie,
What kind of adoption are you pursuing (i.e. county, independent, international)? My husband and I have adopted 4 children through San Diego County adoptions. We have attended support groups sponsored by the SDYCS (San Diego Youth and Community Services). They get funding from the County Dept. of Health Svcs to provide services to adopting/adoptive families. You can contact me directly if you want to find out more, or if you have questions about adoption in general. Talk to you soon! |

Hi Jackie. My apologies for responding so late, but I was out of town on vacation.
In addition to the good suggestion about the Resolve chapter in San Diego, I have two resources for you. There is a pre-adoption education/support organization in San Diego you can look into called sage workshops. Also, adoption.com has a directory of support organizations for adoptive parents at http://directory.adoption.com/search...ia,1,15,1.html Support before and during the adoption process is so very important! The roller coaster experience can be tough. Any suggestions from people from other areas of California about how you went about finding a support group? -Sara Lively, |

I am also looking to adopt.
I have a 4 year old son and have a completed homestudy. Can anyone recommend an private agency that will place healthy African American/bi-racial children (infant to 4 years old) in the California area? |

Hello dinahqz,
What part of California do you live in? My friend and her husband also have a 4 year old son and are in the process of adopting a bi-racial child through a private organization but I forgot what it's called. I will find out from her and let you know later this week. |

You've got a beautiful family. I live in San Diego area.
If you could give me a feel for what fees the agency charges, that would be great as well. Thank you for the reply. |

Hello again dinahqz,
I sent an email to my freind and this was her reply: "I'm going through Olive Crest, but I would recommend that she check with the radio station KPRZ for an organization that is truly a Christian organization. _When we started with them we did so because we thought they were a Christian organziation, but they are not. _Most of the people working there are, but it isn't the same. _If she can't find one, then they would probably work fine." Let me know if you need more information. |

I live in San Diego and just adopted a baby boy (week old today!). Go on the web to adoptioncoalition.com and you'll see that there is a meeting every month for adoptive parents at all stages of the adoption process. We haven't gone because our adoption happened really fast and there weren't any meetings in the summer but we'll go to the next one. Hope to meet you there.
