licensing approved us today.... Yeah

We are so Happy Licensing came out today and approved us. She was very satisified with our home and said we are good to go. Now we wait for a placement. I know it will be after atleast MArch because my husband has a school he has to attend for 2 and a half months. So I am very content with that. I feel so relieved after today. More Relaxed than ever. Did anyone feel this way after licensing. I feel like the hardest part of this is over. A big relief!!!!! Well Happy Holidays all and Best wishes!!!

How long is normal?

So good to hear about a quick placement. We have had an approved home study since Sept. 30. Had one telling but the children were just not "ours" if you know what I mean. Since then we have not heard a word. I am beginning to feel that we are on a "no" list since we turned down the first telling.

Am I being a total nut? How many of you have had more than one telling before finding your child(ren)?

We turned down the children we currently have. We thought it would be to much work..to hard to everything. A 15 month old and a new born is NOT what we were thinking when we said sib set. But we just couldn't get them out of our heart

I think the "NO" list is just something we imagine I think you will get matched when it is time. This happened to some friends of ours. I would say stay in contact with your worker. Be pleasant and polite.

Thanks for the advice. I know things will happen when the time is right, just hate waiting!

We love our social worker so it is no trouble to be polite to her. She has been really wonderful.

Update on "No list"

Hi all,

We did indeed get another match! This time with a 6 mo. old baby girl. She is so right for us, even though we had asked for a sib group. You can just tell she was meant to be ours.

However, for those in county adoption systems you will probably find this familiar, there is now a huge snag. Our social worker got very angry with the temporary foster mother and to show her power has started a turf war between the adoptions and children's social work departments. We were to have visitation with the baby today, instead we are back to square one until all parties within the system are satisfied that they are in agreement about how to proceed.

I am told this is because the baby's welfare is paramount. I am having a very hard time figuring out how the baby benefits from being shuttled to yet another foster home with no transition at all so that the powers that be can facilitate a longer transition period with her final placement family.

I am sure that things will settle down eventually but it is heartbreaking to get this close and have everything go back to start. Sigh.

Aunt Annie - So sorry to hear that you are having difficulty, but thrilled that you have a placement. Please be sure to start a new thread when you get her home!

She's here!

The baby came home with us yesterday morning. After all the mess, the powers that be decided that the original plan was nearly okay, they just put off the transfer by 2 days.

The baby is settling and we are crazy for her!!!

Thanks for the support! I really did not EVER think this day would come and yet here it is!

May it come soon for each of us on the forum who are waiting!!!

Aunt Annie, and now Mama!

Hi

I was wondering how long it took to get your first phone call. I know you said before you brought your little girl home you were matched one on other time. I was wondering how long after your hs in Sep they called. Congragulations on your little girl. I am so happy for you. Which county did you go through again? I am learning from you so your placement gives me alot of encouragement. Best wishes Crissy

Answers for Crissy

Hi Crissy,

I got the first "match" phone call just one week after final approval of our homestudy. We are in San Diego County.

I think that match came so soon because we are a concurrent planning family. That means that while the county is 90% sure that parental rights in the case will be terminated, there IS a chance that the birth mother could re-gain custody.

CP placement is risky because the birth family could regain rights, but it also places the child(ren) with their potential adoptive family far earlier in the process than otherwise. We decided that it was worth the risk because it is so much better for the child not to have to go through lots of foster placements before adoption.

Good luck with your adoption journey. Just know that it takes a lot of patience and some grit to get through all the hoops, but it is so worth it!!

Aunt Annie
