Have you requested background information from your adoption file about your birth parents? This is very helpful information and the foundation of your search. Contact the adoption agency that handled your adoption and ask for "non-identifying" information. Also, have you sent in your information to this registry? “Mutual Consent Registry” is a registry where adoptees and birth parents can register the adoption information. If both parties register normally the agency responsible for the registry will notify both parties that consent has been given to contact each other. Adoptees, adoptive parents and birth parents may register. There is a $35 (waivable) registration fee. A copy of your driver’s license or notarized proof of identification is required and you must state your role in the adoption (adoptee, adoptive parent or birthmother or birth father). To request a registration form contact this office: Florida Adoption Reunion Registry (FARR) Florida Department of Health 1317 Winewood Boulevard, Building 7 Tallahassee, FL 32399-0700 (850) 488-8000, Ext: 3 Toll Free: (800) 962-3678 “Confidential Intermediary” search program in Florida has been temporarily suspended due to budget cuts. Hopefully it will be restored in the near future. WARNING: Many searching adoptees and birth parents have noticed that Florida was one of the states that changed information on the amended birth certificate so that it may not reflect the true date of birth or place of birth. With a common name like Alvarado it would be helpful to your search to request non-identifying information from the adoption agency about your birth parents. If the information that you now have is information given to your adoptive parents at the time of your adoption you should request "updated non-identifying" information. Here is a listing of adoption agencies in California if you need contact information to request your non-id: Adoption Agencies in California where you can request non-identifying information Adoption Genealogist Other great websites to check out: http://www.adoptionchat.com http://www.adoptionlists.com http://www.adoption.com http://www.adopting.org http://registry.adoption.com/ |
