use the CA birth index

Hello fellow searchers.

Thanks to this board and the helpful hints of "the search guru" I was able to find my birth family.

The two biggest helps for me were my updated non-ID info and the CA birth index.

The CA birth index enabled me to know my mothers maiden name which then led to my aunt who I found on the CA marriage index and was able to get a current phone number through her married name.

Good luck to all and don't give up. The Lord will show you your path when He feels you're ready!

Hello!

I wonder if I can get some clarification from you. How were you able to find your mother's maiden name from non-ID file or CA Birth Index?
I have never even heard of a Birth Index....what is it?

=) Thanks

Chris Graves

mothers name

the CA birth index is a list (or partial list) of those born in CA. it gives:

last name (usually fathers name)
first name
DOB
mothers name (usually maiden name)
county of birth

I have the site book marked so I'll have to look up the web site for you. If you want to PM me your birth name and birth date I can check it out for you, otherwise, I'll get the web site for you and post it.

Good Luck

Shannon

website

the website is:

http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/gen/ca...s/cabirthm.htm

if you have problems with that you can go to:

www.vitalsearch-ca.com

that is the CA State portal. Scroll down just a bit and on the left is a white box that list:

state marriage indices
state death indices
state birth indices

highlight one of those and click "go" you will need a "free guest pass" (it is free) and then you put in the surname (last name you are searching)

I did buy a three month subscription because a friend I was searching for had no info at all. "premiun searcher" lets you vary in the info you search with ie: DOB, mothers last name, county of birth, etc. If there is something I can help you search, I'll try to do it for you (remember the search gurus warnings about posting too much info though) I could never have found my birth family without help from others so now its my turn to return the favor.

I will tell you it was WAY COOL to actually see MY NAME in the CA birth index. It was like "Hey, Wow, I WAS really born"

Good luck to all and let me know if any of this was not clear

:)

Kathi~

No Problem...glad to help, however.....

be careful on what info you put out on the post!

EVEYONE!
please read all the scammer warnings! Don't post too much info!

Okay, now that that's done with

Yes, I found my birth family three weeks ago thanks to this board and the helpful advice from thesearchguru! So far all is going well. I have lead on my Bmom but am not sure if now is a good time for contact (long story) but my Baunt and I are in touch and I've also found my Bsister and Bbrother through her (although have not made contact yet...same long story) It turns out they were also put up for adoption but not until they were teenagers!

"the last name" hard to say for sure if it's you or not! It was the only one listed w/out a first name on your DOB. Are you positive about the first name you gave me (your birth name)? If so you were not listed under that name. Did you say you already have your non-id info? Does it list any siblings for your Bmom? Your birth mothers age at your time of birth?

Good Luck

Shannon

Exclamation California Birth Index on-line

Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board!

Be aware that the California Birth Index on-line in not a complete listing of all births in California...it is only a partial listing. Some years both the birth names and adopted names are listed. Other years the birth name is listed but not the adopted name or the adopted name is listed but not the birth name. Also, only about 50% of the relinquished babies were listed without a first name so be sure and consider listings that do have a first name too.

Florida and North Carolina

I have not heard of nor have I seen a birth index on-line for Florida. For North Carolina you might check with member
lucadebrasi who completed his North Carolina search and several months ago had a lot of information on birth listings in that state.

Thanks,

I read this information and went to the birth index for California. I now know the birthday of my sister that I've been looking for since October.

It was so easy!!

Thank You

marriage index too

Hi BL

If you know your sisters adopted name you can always try the CA marriage index too.
