HOW TO GET STARTED ON YOUR CALIFORNIA SEARCH:
California/New York and Florida/New York birth and adoptions were a common intra-state situation for many years. The state of adoption (California) is the one that holds your adoption file with the non-identifying information about your birth parents. The state of birth (New York) will have the original birth certificate information and the amended birth certificate information. To start your search you might want to request these services in California: ***Non-identifying information*** You can request this from the adoption agency that handled your adoption. It will give you most or all of the following about your birth family: A. Ages of birth parents at the time of relinquishment B. Marital status C. Other siblings born before you D. Physical description E. Ethnicity F. Occupation G. Education H. Information about aunts, uncles and grandparents I. Reason for relinquishment ***Waiver for Consent to Contact Form*** The Waiver is a form that can be used by adoptees or birthparents to give their permission for contact should a waiver be filed by both parties. NOTE: If you do not know what agency handled your adoption, or if you were a private adoption, you can contact this office for the above services: State of California Dept of Social Services, Adoptions 744 P Street MS 19-31 Sacramento CA 95814 Phone: 916-322-3778 California Search Website: http://www.adoptionforums.com http://www.adoptionchat.com http://www.adoptionlists.com http://www.adoption.com http://www.adopting.org http://www.adoptionregistry.com |

Contact this office below. If you were a private adoption they will send you information about your birth parents. If you were an agency adoption they will send you the name, address and phone number of the agency to contact to request non-identifying information about your birth parents.
