Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Board!

Do you have the state of birth for your birthmother? If so, you might check marriage records in that state. If she was born in California you might check marriages under the name Anderson in the county of your birth.

Thanks for your reply.

From the non-identifying information I received from the state of California, I know the following information: My birthmother was born in Illinois, and was 20 years old at the time of my birth (which means she was probably born in late 1934 or, more likely, 1935). She had a younger brother who was 15 at the time. Additionally, the non-id info stated that she became engaged to an "old friend" shortly after I was born.

I've checked Los Angeles County marriage records for a two-year period after my birth, and (based on her age) found about a dozen possible "suspects." I'm thinking that if I can get a hold of an Illinois Birth Index (if such a thing even exists), I can check births that occurred there in late 1934-1935 — using my suspect-name list — and (hopefully) find her mother's maiden name. With that info, I can cross-check to see if any male births (i.e., my birthmother's brother) occurred 5 years later to the same mother.

Does this all sound feasible?

Welcome to the Search and Reunion Message Boards!

That sounds like a good plan. Also, if you can view the marriage records they generally give a state of birth on the certificate.

Please be aware that the on-line California birth index in not a complete listing of all names. Sometimes the birth name and adopted name are both listed. Other times neither name is listed. Some years the birth name is listed but not the adopted name or the adopted name is listed but not the birth name.
