We were told the total cost would be about 20-30K. But the average adoption cost about 25-30K for two parents traveling to adopt one child.

I'm interested in this as well. I have been following the russian boards for quite some time and have found the financial requirements there quite daunting. Unfortunately, cost is an issue, though I have the day-to-day finances to raise a child (childcare, clothing, insurance, etc). As a single adopter, the additional 25-30K (on top of what appears to be the Bulgarian normal fees) does make a difference. Something I've been flamed for on other sites
At any rate, my dream of building a family through adoption leads me here and I'd be interested to hear stories of recent Bulgarian adoptions and please feel free to PM with the agency you used ... I'm very interested to learn more! |

I chose to adopt a special needs child (reduced fees).... I looked at my expense report (a break down of all expenses that I have created... I am more than happy to share it)... an a single adopter adopting a SN child... adding in travel expenses including hotel, airfare, food and buying a few momentos... I think it was about 21000 at the Euro conversion today... that is including every last dime... i.e. mail, fedex, copies of docs, apostilles...etc...
I have been told 25-30,000 is a good estimate for a healthy child under 5 with two parents traveling. you can be more frugal in country by using an apartment and making some of your food (I plan to do that... but budgeted for non-frugal). Yvonne |
