Exclamation "Old" Dossiers

I noticed on my agency's website that in their Bulgarian update section, they stated that the new dossiers were being handled separately from the old ones. Since my agency had received referrals for all their clients, and this did not affect them, they did not elaborate on what this meant.

So, I asked my agency rep what this meant. This is her reply:

They are determining if they are still active and desire to adopt from bg; many famillies simply walked away and adopted from other countries but did not withdrawal their bg dossiers. If the families want to adopt, they will be told what is missing or outdated and given a timeline to show their commitment. Many are "dead" dossiers and will be discarded. Others will be moved over to await a referral ; new dossiers will be considered separately and before old ones.

For those of you waiting in Bulgaria, you may want to contact your agency and update anything on your dossier that might have expired. Otherwise it appears you may be delayed more.

Kay, thanks for the ongoing updates. It's good news for me as my dossier is in the process of being translated, so I guess I'm one of the new (and lucky) ones.

I feel so bad for others who have been waiting so long and still are interested in adopting from Bulgaria. Updating those required documents will take more time.

Kay, is it okay if I share this information on my egroup? There are several who have been waiting years for a referral.

Thanks and take care,
Kayse

Hi Kayse, yes feel free to share it. The more people are aware, the faster they can get their paperwork updated and get a referral. It is too bad their agencies are not communicating this to their clients.

Exclamation old dossiers

Hi,

My agency in BG contacted me the end of December 2007. I was one of those "dead" dossiers.

According to them, they received a fax from the MOJ, after that big meeting, and were told to contact their old clients to see if they were still interested in adopting from BG.

If so, here is what we were required to produce: a valid INS by Febuary 15, 2008. That is all. Nothing more.

I told my agent we were interested but that that requirement was impossible as it would take a minimum 3 months to get.

They got back to me the next day after having gone to the MOJ with the situation, and found others had the same concern.

So now, all of us old dossiers have the following requirement: a letter from our home study agency to show we have a valid home study and an estimated date for receiving the valid INS.

And, letter from the adoptive family reaffirming their desire to adopt.

Finally, something you may want to know, I have been told that as of that orignal fax, to my BG-based agent, I would be given the same spot in the line-up that I was in when I gave it up...which would put the older applicants to the head of the line.

I also have not heard of any limit to the age of the dead dossier that wishes to restart. That may be worth investigating.

I don't say this to dash hopes...but to clarify and in the interest that no one gets misinformation.

If anyone has something else...I would also like to know because it does make a difference in the proposed timelines.

Thanks,

K

My lawyer told me there was no waiting list per se. It was more like a pool and the children were on a waiting list. When a child's name came up, the committee looked over the 1600 waiting families in the pool and picked the best match.

After waiting two years I switched to Colombia. I expect a referral before my I600A is finalize. Good luck to everyone.

I cannot say what your lawyer was referring to, when this was said, etc.

At this time, all parents and children are entered in registries. This was to cut down on the bribery problems. All now would, in theory, have to come up according to place in the registry.

Great news:

News from my agency in BG says that the MOJ is meeting faithfully every Tuesday. So far, this month of January 2008, 23 children have been placed.

Regards to all,

K
