Question Travel to/in BG

Does anyone have some suggestions about travel in BG?

Specifically: what is needed for entry and exit from the country? I currently have a valid passport, is more needed?

Any thing about medical insurance?...I am reading on travel.state.gov that it may be mandatory. Has anyone run into this? If so, what do you recommend?

Any tips or suggestions for travelling in BG?

Any thoughts on recommended immunizations?

Thank you,

K

Kwein, did you get your referral??? That would be great news!

Anyway, I have been to Bulgaria 4 times.

what is needed for entry and exit from the country? I currently have a valid passport, is more needed? No. Passport is all you need.

Any thing about medical insurance?...I am reading on travel.state.gov that it may be mandatory. Has anyone run into this? If so, what do you recommend? All I did was call my health insurance company and let them know I would be travelling. I did not buy anything.

Any tips or suggestions for travelling in BG? If you are going on your visit trip, you should be well taken care of (depending on your agency). They should take you everywhere you need to go. If you are going on your own, most people outside the major cities do not speak English. I have never been there without agency support, so I am not sure what to tell you here. If you are going as a tourist, it depends where you are going. Also, I may be able to hook you up with a reputible travel agency within Bulgaria. Let me know if you want me to check into it.

Any thoughts on recommended immunizations? None.

Dear Kay,

No news on a referral as yet...I will post that info if/when it happens.

No, I am wanting to be sure we are set should it happen and there may be a couple others travelling with me so I need to fill them in so we are set to go at the same time.

Thank you for all your posts and encouragement.

Only one other word of caution. The cars are small, so I would not have more than 2 adults with you (3 of you and then your driver), and carry limited luggage. The biggest cars are about the size of a Malibu, some more like at Chevy Cobalt. So plan accordingly.

I look forward to news of your referral!

Ok Kay! I almost forgot how tiny the cars were! Don't forget, you will have a driver and possibly a translator.

I was picked up at the airport by a driver, and another family was picked up also - adoptive mom and aunt. I don't think we could have put anyone else in the car.

When we took the kids for their dr. appointments, they used 2 cars, because we probably wouldn't have all fit.
