Health Conditions of Children

Hello, we are considering Bulgarian adoption. I'm excited to read about the new MOJ.

My main concern is the health of the children. Are they healthy children? Thanks for the any info.

Kayse, overall the children are healthy. Those that are special needs are documented clearly with their condition.

In my non-scientific observations, I have found that cases of FAS seem to be very low. ADHD/ADD also do not seem to be prevailant in Bulgaria. The children are beautiful, and with the changes in the MOJ, Bulgaria should be a great choice for adoption.

Health of Children

Hi Kay,

Thanks for responding. Yesterday I emailed a Dr. Laurie Miller at the Tufts New England Medical Center / International Adoption Clinic regarding the health of Bulgarian children. The clinic specializes in pre and post international adoption services. The website is: International Adoption Clinic

Dr. Miller gave me permission to post her opinion here:

RE: Information on Bulgaria

Hi - we've seen a number of children from Bulgaria in our clinic. Overall, the conditions/care in the Baby Homes seems very similiar to Russia/Kazakhstan. Reasons for relinquishmt of children is also the same. Medical care/terminology is slightly more westernized than in Ru/Kaz. We haven't felt that as a group the "health" of the children from Bulgaria differs significantly from these other eastern European sites. we'd be delighted to help you with your referral - see International Adoption Clinic for details.
LCM

After hearing this from Dr. Miller, I'm confident that we will proceed with a Bulgarian adoption despite the long wait.

I strongly recommend anyone considering international adoption to check out the NEMC website at International Adoption Clinic

Take care and I hope to stay in touch with all.

Kayse
