MOJ Update

In case you did not hear, the Minister of Justice has resigned. I new one has not been appointed yet.

Also, I received this information from my Bulgarian Attorney:
The Association of Bulgarian mothers begins organization of Round table for adoption questions and problems with purpose to provoke changes in the law and public discussion for the problems of the children in the Orphanages!

I am not sure how much power this group has, or if they will have any real ability to intitute change, but it cannot get much worse.

Blessings on all waiting.

I dont know the full story with Bulgaria with regards to adoptions, however I feel that the childrens' needs have to come first.

the Minister of Justice has resigned!?!

I did not hear this news anywhere else.
Did your lawyer tell you?
Do you know the circunstances or was the resignation due to general pressure?
If you know of anywhere to read up on this please let me know!
Thanks for sharing this info. (Again, I get more info here than from our agent!)
Please keep sharing!

The information came from my attorney. I do not know the circumstances, and given the culture in Bulgaria, I do not expect to find out. I hope to have more details about the status of Bulgarian adoptions in a few weeks. If I find out anything of interest, I will pass it on.

The new MOJ is Miglena Tacheva. She had previously been a Deputy MOJ, but resigned along with several other deputies 3 years ago. The former MOJ resigned for "personal reasons". I have not found any information on her position on international adoptions, children and the state of the orphanages.

I had heard that she is an adoptee herself (or maybe I'm confusing her with the previous head of MOJ?)

If what I heard is true, then hopefully that is a good thing since she will have personal insight into the process and may be more pro-adoption (and moving forward).

Please correct me if I have my facts wrong, just trying to pass on what *little* info I've heard.

Gypsy: a good source of info on general news in Bulgaria is the online English language Sofia Echo. In the archives is the story about the appointment of the new MOJ. The government's site is also available in English.

Republic of Bulgaria - Council of Ministers.
