Not matched yet, when to pump?

We have not been matched with a birthmom yet. We had a close call and I got a pump, but haven't started yet. Should I start pumping even though it may be months from now? When do I start meds. to encourage my production? My Dr. doesn't know much, so I am searching the boards for advice. Thanks to all!

I suggest contacting your local lactation consultant (call the hospital)for info. I have found them to be more helpful than the docs. Personally, I wouldn't start pumping until you had some idea of when the baby will be arriving. However, it is a personal decision. You certainly can start whenever you want to. I have read many stories of moms who began inducing lactation when their babies arrived, and they still got a good milk supply (1/2 - 3/4 of babies needs). Best of luck to you!
