New here and wanting some additional info

We are currently on the waiting list for adoption. I want to breastfeed for the bondness and attachment of the new little one. I have read many of web sites on what needs to be done to get stuff started. I spoke with my OBGY yesterday and she did not encourage me to breastfeed. I want to and I have been praying about this and the Lord continues to lead me to believe that everything will work out for me to BF. The questions I have is that some of the web sites say to stimulate the breasts several times a day, does that work in sending messages to the brain to the pituitary gland to start forming the breast or not? I was going to contact LLL to see what they think also. Can anyone help me on this and are your suggestion to get started on this?

Some people do start stimulating and I guess do eventually start producing.

I have tried that route and ended up quiting due to frustration.
This time around, I did the protocol where you take a specific birthcontrol pill as well as domperidone and then when that stops, you start taking fenugreek and blessed thistle herbs as well as the domperidone. At this time you start pumping every 2-3 hours.
I started getting milk after a few days and was collecting after a week. I am on week four of pumping and am getting over 3 ounces a day.

Just curious, why did your OBGY discourage bf?

Because of my age

I just turn 40 earlier this year. I feel like if I dont at least give it a try then I be unsuccessful at childbearing and trying to nourish the infant. At least if I try and it does not work then I can say I give it my best and it did not work for me. I would have an heavy heart the rest of my life not trying anything. Hubby and I has talked it over and have agree to do everything we can to provide nourishment to the little one. Not sure how other women feel about this. I have had two miscarriages and I want to be successful at providing something for a infant. Do you have to see your MD to start on the medication that helps with producing milk?

yes, you do have to go to your dr for this. Are you in the US? I am in Canada so the domperidone is perscription. There, I believe, it is not available. You have to order it...not sure from where though.
I would get on the yasmine bcp. I am pumping now because I didnt like the way I felt on the pill so i stopped at 40 days. Ideally, you would stay on that and the dom for several months, unless of course you get a match earlier.
Maybe someone here knows how to order the dom.

I am with you on the providing part. I have adopted all of my 3 kids, two of whom came to us at birth. I wanted to bf the first but she came too quickly and gave up before we were matched with number 2 because I was only taking herbs and had no luck. I was determined this time to do it properly. So far, so good.

I live in USA

Does anyone know if your regular medical doctor will prescripted it or not? I will do some research after survivor goes off.

My doctor had never heard of inducing lactation and didn't think it was possible. I got the domperidone without a prescription from Inhouse Pharmacy - Supplying a wide range of Prescription and Non-Prescription Medications Online including Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Ventolin, Singulair . I figured out the dosages myself and did fine without a doctor's help. The domperidone and a good breastpump are really all you need. I got a full supply (6 months old baby eating solids too though) and have kept it for 2 years now. I only had to be on the domperidone for about 4 months before I was able to wean myself off of it. My mom was 41 when she had me and she breastfed me for over 2 years, so I don't know why your age would be a problem for breastfeeding. Good luck!

Ty

Thank you for the information. I purchased a breast pump this week and I am going to attend the LLLE meeting on Tuesday night. I bought the evenflo which I know is not the very best one out there, but I wanted to start the stimulation with breast pump now since I had already started the other stimulation. What is the time frame on starting the medicine for adoption. I have read on different websites different time frames anyone got any suggestions on that? Also, I had 2 miscarriages in the first month of pregnancies does that affect the quicker you can induced lactation?

The time frame depends on just how you feel about how long you care to pump, if you have an adoption fall through, so you want to be making milk and how long you have until your baby is born if you are matched. It also depends on whether you want to take BCP or Domperidone. There are lots of options. :-)
