That is how I have always been and how pretty much everyone I have ever known works. One side is the big producer and the other side produces 1/2-1/3 of what the big producer makes. Totally normal!

Nope, no match. I pumped from May 2008 until Nov. or Dec. 2008 and then stopped because I was too frustrated and we didn't have a match. It was a good break. I started pumping again about 3 weeks ago. I am pumping about 6-6.5 ounces a day right now!!

Just since yesterday, I have noticed that after I finish pumping, I will suddenly get really sore. My nipple will be white like its got lots of pressure. It will feel better very quickly if I hand express a little bit, or even massage. It will happen once or even a few times after I pump and then it seems to settle down. Do you know what this is about???

There are 2 things it could be.

The first is that you are possibly getting a bit of a yeast infection, which can cause this. If it is a new development, I would guess this first. You can use something called Genetian Violet on it once a day for 7 days. If that doesn't work, you might need to read through the links Dr. Newman has online about other treatment options including Grapeseed Extract and Diflucan as possible treatments. Also, taking Acidophilus will help yeast.

The other possibility is "Raynaud's Syndrome" (also known as R. Disease and R. Phenomenon). There are a couple of well known treatments for this and symptoms are usually a triphasic color change (red, white, gray-blue) and have pain relieved with heat or sometimes massage. Treatments for it are either Niacin or a medication called Procardia XL.

Both conditions can be PAINFUL. I hope you figure it out quickly!

Wow! I was thinking just like leftover milk or something that needs to come out! haha
It is only ever after I pump, never lasting more than a minute or two, then massage, it goes away, might come back a few minutes later and then that would be it.
I will look up the things you mentioned though.
It really feels like cold, hard nipplitis! (if that is such a word).

I am getting 2 ounces a day now!

I just looked up Raynauds syndrome and it totally fits! I dont feel like I have had any nipple damage though but maybe from pumping, it has gotten irritated slightly.
I am going to try taking Vitamin b6.

Congratulations on the 2 ounces!!!!!!

I found that the longer I pumped/breastfed, the worse the RS got and I eventually had to go on the Procardia. For some people the B6 works GREAT though, and I really hope you are one!! Also, if you have yeast going on, it can cause the same/similar symptoms. :-)

Thanks for the tips. I think I will look at what I can take for yeast, just incase it is that.
I tried sleeping through the night without pumping the other night because I find if I get up I have a hard time getting back to sleep and then I am up early for work and with the kids. Well, it made things worse! My boobs hurt and I tossed and turned all night. Should have just got up!
Last night was much better though. Fell asleep right away after pumping.
Do you find you get less milk at night? I hardly get anything, maybe half or less of what I get in a session during the day.

Well, it seems to depend, but I always have a lower spell either in the evening or at night. I always get the most in the morning and that is all normal as well. On the days I can take a nap (rare around here) I will have another surge after the nap, because women make the most prolactin during sleep.

Hi ladies, my name is michaelle. I am in the process of inducing lactation for our soon to be born adopted son. Our baby is due in just 2 weeks. I have over 60 oz of milk in the freezer, all pumped within the past 3 months.
I'm currently pumping 3 oz a day. I've been inducing with the help of herbs and dom and nurse Reedle's advice. Just wanted to join you gals and get some good advice from women who's been there, and done that.

I am over 2 ounces a day now! Maybe when I get to 3 weeks of pumping, I will get to 3 ounces! That gives me until monday. We will see how the weekend goes. Right now, I am only finding time for pumping about 5-6 times a day.

Hi Tara, nice to meet you. I 've been pumping since the end of June. I never did BCP. Just went straight to pumping and slowly added herbs and dom. I pump every 2-3 hours. I 've been slowly increasing. I wish I could make more milk though.
