New here with questions...

We just got "the call" last night! Our baby girl will be born by Dec. 29th at the latest, and they said to be prepared at anytime to head to the hospital.

I would love to BF her. This is our first child and so not only am I a new mommy, but I have no idea where to start with BF!

I was going to call my Ob/gyn to try to make a consultation in the next week...what else could/should I be doing to prepare for BF'ing?

Thanks!!

The m/c's, the infertility, the waiting, the failed matches, it has all been worth it to have our beautiful baby S. She was meant to be ours we just had to wait for her to come along!

check out these sites

Hi, we are matched with a emom that is due in March and I have been on the Newman-Goldfarb protocol for 5 months now. These 2 sites have been greatly helpful.
If you need any more info you can send me a PM and I will give you my email.

Ask Lenore ~ Home Page
The Adoptive Breastfeeding Resource Website - Homepage

Hope that helps. Good luck!!!

are you pumping?

Congratulations on your match! We don't have a match yet, but I've begun pumping to try to induce lactation in advance. I tried manual and hand pump, but after a couple of La Leche League meetings, I was convinced to go ahead and get a double electrical pump. I've started pumping 3-4 times a day, and once we get the call I plan to up it to at least 6x per day. I also have a supplemental nursing system ready to go so I can supplement at the breast in case the call comes with little notice.

My advice to you considering your baby is just a month or less away is to start pumping very frequently. The baby will nurse every 2-3 hours, so if you can stand it, start pumping that frequently, with a longer interval at night. I'd also get some sort of nursing supplementer and get familiar with it so you're not fumbling with it once you have your baby.

Best of luck and again congratulations!
Karolina

We're also matched with an e-mom due in late March, and I've been doing a modification of the Newman-Goldfarb protocol for a little over a month. I'm holding off on pumping until 6 weeks or so before the due date, but so far with just the domperidone and herbs I've seen a cup size increase in my breasts.

I'd suggest going to the ask lenore website and taking a look at the accelerated protocol. Also get in touch with your local LaLeche League and/or a lactation consultant who can talk to you about renting a breast pump and show you how to use it. You really want a hospital-grade pump rather than one you can buy in the store because it much more closely simulates the stimulation your breasts get from nursing, and that's the big thing to help increase your milk production.

And congratulations on the new baby!

Thank you ladies! I will check out the websites and I have a consultation with my OB/GYN on Thursday. I hope I can BF my baby girl. We'll see how it goes!
