How much in advance to start B feeding
Hi everyone,
I have a question. My husband and I are in the process of finishing up our home study and I am 100% for breastfeeding but I am a bit unsure as to when to start. At this time there is no baby in site, we are doing a domestic adoption. I have talked to docs, the health unit and I am in the La Le league and they are all telling me that I should start pumping now. My problem with this is; I have no baby in site. I e-mail Doc Newman and he said maybe I should not start pumping because it could take 2 years to get a baby and who wants to pump for 2 years.. So I am torn, I have been told by everyone to start pumping and told by a wonderful doc maybe not yet... My question is this, have you girls started pumping before you had a placement or did you wait? Thanks so much Amy |

I'm curious to know to. We will not be adopted for another year from Kazakhstan and I plan to breastfed our daughter. I'm looking for information to know how long I should wait was well. I'm not even sure how to get my supply built up.

Medication?
Hi-
I'm currently breastfeeding my son that we only had 23 hours notice to pick him up at the hospital! Prior to his surprise arrival I was taking birth control pills and domperidone daily, but not yet pumping. I'm now about 5 weeks into breastfeeding, and I am getting milk. Are you planning on taking any medication prior to pumping? Natalie |

Congrats!! That is soooo great.. How much milk are you able to get now and are you using a bottle or aid? How long had you been on bc and dom.?
I would like to go on domperidone but I can not get a hold of it. I seen that i can get it online but im not sure how safe it is or which one i should go through. any advise you can tell me would be wonderful.. Thanks so much and congrats.. :0) I am sooo happy for you... Amy |

Thanks for the congrats!
I was on the bcp and dom for a little over 35 days when he arrived, so not as long as I would have liked. From what I'm reading it seems like the longer someone is on the bcp and dom, a larger quantity of milk is produced. I am nursing with a lact-aid, which was annoying at first but now no big deal. I'm not sure how much milk I'm getting, because I'm nursing for 30-40 min and then pumping. When I pump I'm getting 1/2 oz., but I have no way to tell how much my son gets beforehand when he's nursing. He's really growing though! I ordered the dom online and had no problems. It did take 3 weeks to arrive as the website said. Once I had my son, I began to nurse with the lact-aid and pump afterwards (except at night, because I am too tired to pump). I had fat drops of milk within 7 days. Hope that helps! Keep reading the different adoptive breastfeeding websites- they are so full of good information! Natalie |
