Lactation consultant needed?

Hi-
We're on the path for our 2nd adoption, and I've decided I want to try to breastfeed this time. I've been online looking at the regular protocol, ordered the Dom, and will start bc soon. My question is this: keeping a positive attitiude that I will get breastmilk, how do I find support to breastfeed when the baby arrives? Do I find a local lactatin consultant here in PA? Do I try to find one in the state where the baby will be born (FL)? Will I even need to worry about it? I have a fear of being in the hotel room with a crying baby for two weeks and me just not having a clue what to do!
Thanks,
Natalie

Natalie,

a GREAT website for you to post on is asklenore dot com. However, with that said. CONGRATULATIONS! This is an awesome process, and so empowering as a woman! I would find an LC both in PA and in FL. You can go to LLL.com and also International Lactation Consultant Association

Do you have a lact-aid yet? When is your LO arriving? Do tell!

Congrats again!

Thanks for the support! We're just in the beginning stages. Homestudy update is almost done. I found my family doctor to be unsupportive (or just ignorant?) of inducing lactation, so I appreciate the enthusaism here!

You're SO welcome!!! Have you tried your OB/GYN?

Also, when I went to my gyn, I took all SORTS of printed info from websites with me, so that I could educate her as well. I think she was still a bit skeptical, but very willing to help and supportive. SO, now I just need to make this work and prove it to her!!!!

Good Luck!!

Even though I had found a lactation consultant from which to rent the pump (since you have to start pumping well in advance of the baby's arrival), I ended up just having a lesson from the hospital's lactation consultant (who were thrilled to help me) before I took the baby home. After that I was home free.

I'm just stopping adoptive breastfeeding after 6 months. I just cannot pump any more!
