Discouraged

So i have been going through the motions of getting my body reading to breastfeed and after attending a breastfeeding class am highly discouraged.
Adoption is expensive enough but trying to breastfeed feels like we are constatnly sinking more money into something that may not work. Not to mention more uncertainty to the adoption process that is hard enough to deal with.
Between the expenses of domperidone (which of course our insurance doesn't cover), breast pump rental, cost of lact-aid system and all the bags involved, new bras, and eventually having to buy a nice $200-$300 pump when (if) milk comes in is insane.
I am so stressed out over how to afford all this I am about to give up interely.

Marie ~

It sounds as if you're totally frustrated and overwhelmed with this process thus far. This IS an expensive process, adoption, the $ for meds, pumps, etc. And its very frustrating that others can have all of this for free!!! (I had my own "why me?" pity party the other day!) Take some time, take a breath.

Financially...think of the $$ involved in purchasing formula for the baby...even if you only produce 1/2 of a supply for your baby, your costs will probably be less with meds and a pump then they would buying formula all the time.

Also, have you thought about just purchasing the pump right from the get-go? I know of several women who did this and were able to find their pumps on e-bay. That way you save $ on the price of the pump as well as saving all the $ you would have spend on the rental every month.

Good Luck to you...I'll be following in your footsteps shortly. I'm waiting until the homestudy is done to start meds.

Don't give up...that little face looking up at you while you BF will be your reward!!!

Marie,

The costs associated with adoptive breastfeeding are a pittance when compared to the costs of adoption. You don't have to buy a pump. The better pumps are actually the hospital grade pumps which you can rent. The lact-aid and bags aren't that expensive and I get 2 months worth of domperidone for about $100. That is cheap!

I wonder if you are having doubts about the process. That may be where your feelings are coming from. As for me, I never expected to enjoy breastfeeding but wanted to do it for the health benefits for the baby. Yet now as I am doing this with our 2 month old, I am in heaven!

Good luck!
