SNS or Lact-Aid

Can anyone share if they have used one or both of these systems? Did one work better for you than the other and why?

I have both, but find that the Lactaid seems more appealing to me. It is less bulky, you can wear it under clothes, and you can nurse lying down with it. But since I am waiting for our little one to be born, I cannot yet speak from experience. Hope this little bit helps.

Hello,

I have used both and the Lact-Aid is more user friendly (less spillage, less bulky) and also more highly regarded because it works more on suction than gravity. It will incease milk supply much faster than the SNS.

However, I still found it a pain in the ***!!! What finally worked for me was a system my breastfeeding clinic gave me - basically a lid that fit on any standard bottle with a very fine feeding tube threaded through it. That way I could stand the bottle up on a table, etc, and use the tube - it was easier to fill, clean and didn't have to worry about disposable bags etc. You need to replace the tubes every week or so, but they are just giving them to me so it's no big deal...

Good luck!

Karyn,

Doesn't the bottle have to be held upside down? I'm confused.

Hey Liana,

No, it doesn't because the feeding tube end sinks to the bottom of the bottle. Then the baby has to suck hard to get the liquid up the tube...I can give you the names of all the parts if you are interested.

I'm sure some experts would say it is not as good as the Lact-Aid, but I just found the trouble the Lact-Aid was wasn't worth whatever bonuses I might get from it. Filling those bags was an exercise in patience, I tell ya! I'm sure if I had of stuck with it it would have gotten easier, but I just found it easier to use the system I described above.

Yeah - it works pretty well - and it fits the Medela bottles so if you pump right into a bottle you can just fit the top over. They gave it to me at the clinic and it is called "VoluFeed Disposable Dispensing Cap"....

Then to clean it they gave me a syringe and you just syringe out the milk...
