What kind of doctor can help?

I want to breastfeed when I adopt this year but I can't find the right doc to help. I have the protocol by my primary wanted me to go to OB, OB sent me to the Breast Center and they sent me to Reproductive Medicine who sent me back to OB. I am in MN and at a huge University medical center, there has got be someone who knows about this, right? I also heard a rumor that they no longer employ lactation consultants at the hopsital to save money. Where do I begin?

Thanks!
Megan

Speaking as a doctor, I don't think you are going to get much help from physicians since few know about adoptive breastfeeding. My own gynecologist told me not to bother. I got to have the last laugh when I saw her recently and told her that I was breastfeeding our adopted daughter.

Seriously, why do you need a doctor? The protocol is on the Ask Lenore website. Dr. Newman and Lenore are both available by e-mail to assist you. There are message boards and yahoo groups for support and you can get domperidone without a prescription from some online pharmacies.

Send me a PM if you want more information on these resources.

Thanks Liana. I guess I thought I needed a script for the D but maybe not? I am amazed at how unhelpful the entire medical system is about this! Which pharmacy should I use?

Thanks!

It's more about lack of knowledge than anything else. There is little in the medical literature about adoptive breastfeeding, so docs can't be very helpful.

InHouse Pharmacy is where I get my domperidone.
