Info for Doctors?
Does anyone know of a packet of information that can be given to medical staff to familiarize them with adoptive breastfeeding? Since many doctors and hospitals may not have heard of this, I would like to have something to share and get them "on board." I am going to be adopting a newborn in 2 weeks and want to be prepared for any resistance that may come up.

I don't know of any pre-made packets, but I do have a bunch of stuff I could share w/ you. What kind of info are you looking for?
I've printed out the NG protocol from Lenore's website and given that to my dr's who need to know about the lactation induction part of it. But if you want to share the benefits of adoptive breastfeeding (or bf in general), check out La Leche League's site. You could also try looking at attachment parenting sites. I know I found some interesting stuff once upon a time, but I don't remember exactly where. Also, my LC printed out a chapter from The Breastfeeding Answer Book for me that covers abf pretty well. It also discusses bf around the world and how normal it is for women to nurse other women's babies. Good luck educating those doctors! |
