It heard that it is possible to breast feed. There is a book called"Breastfeeding the Adopted Baby" by Debra Stewart Peterson. I was told that you can get it from Tapestry Books at 800-765-2367. It will give you information on how to. Good Luck.

I sometimes watch "A BABY STORY" and it had an adopted mom who was breastfeeding. They have this special thing you buy which has a very small straw that goes to the nipple. As the baby sucks it eventually causes you to lactate. It is not enough to fill the baby so you will always need the device.

i talked to a lactation expert about breastfeeding our adopted daughter. since we had so little time between notice and the birth (6 weeks) i was told that i would have to use a hospital grade pump for 15 minutes 10x a day. since i was working this was not feesable. i have bottle fed her w/ no ill effects to her and our 'bonding' process. right now we are starting to feed solids so that is a whole 'nother subject. if you want to breastfeed, call a lactation expert. the big teaching hospitals in your area should have a lactation clinic.
