we are canceling our adoption

He has no intentions of doing anything for the children. In fact, he emptied one orphanage, by sending back all the children to their parents, if they had any.(he made this a law in his jurisdiction) These people are uneducated, are drug addicts and prostitutes, very poor and do not eat well (and food is so cheap there)ect. We just wanted the judge to process our kids and he said no one was going to influence him about anything! So we have no choice but to cancel the adoption. The children were already chosen by my sister-inlaw and the bio-mother wanted us to have them 3 years ago and wanted to stay in touch with us to see how the children were doing as they grew up. What more could anyone want? We agreed with our attorney that we would not bribe the judge, but from what my husband's family knows about the Brazilian government is that most of them expect that. Now will just go elsewhere to adopt.
I did speak to an adoption agency while doing my adoption research (saves thousands of dollars) and they said they dropped Brazil because their very corrupt officials were so impossible to work with. Now we've had a taste of it.
I feel sorry for all those kids. Their futures don't look so good. None of them were getting adopted.
I hope that all of you that are trying to adopt, manage to do so. Ask your adoption agency how many adoptions they have completed in Brazil. And how long did it take. I know that it makes a difference what judge is involved. Each one does what he wants. Our judge is supposed to be a Christian man. Our attorney sees him at church every Sunday! We thought he'd be so happy that someone wanted to adopt.
God has other plans for us, He never fails us.
Blessings and prayers to each of you for fast adoptions!!

Re: we are canceling our adoption

Well, you have many problems here. First of all, it is not your place or any family member of yours, to go to Brazil and identify your children to adopt. That is not allowed and the judge was really doing his job.
Don't get angry at the judge, since he was just following the adoption rules in Brazil.
The children in the orphanage that he sent back to their bio parents, probably weren't legally available for adoption. If there's no termination of parental rights, then the children can't be adopted.
There is no adoption for you to cancel, since you never went through the proper channel. You just can't go into a country and demand that you adopt a child that meets your fancy. There are laws against that.why should the judge break the laws for your benefit. You should have done more search on Brazilian adoption before proceeding.
As far as you judging the judge, perhaps you should be judging the crooked attorney you hired. How dare you bad mouth the judge, who wants to uphold the law? What about the lawyer, who was willing to look the other way, just so he can earn your fee? You have it all wrong Terri!

“Orphanages” are for children at risk (like your foster care). The goal of the “orphanages” and judicial system in Brazil is to have the children back to their original family. Only in case this is not a good option the children will be considered available for adoption (after the termination of parental rights process, of course)
This is the law.
And please, what do you want to say with “and food is so cheap there”.
Maybe it is cheap for you or do you think people are starving here in Brazil by their own choice.
Ana
