Finally going to Brazil!
Just wanted to share our good news that we finally got our approval after 14 weeks in CEJA and we are going to meet our daughter in 2 1/2 weeks!!! We are so excited and can hardly believe that it is time to go - so much to do now. We will be in Curitiba, any advice? We will be traveling with our twins from Guatemala (2 years old).

Congratulations Marsha! I know you've got to be just thrilled! I can't wait to hear how your time in Curitiba goes, we are hoping to go in November or December to pick up our kids from Curitiba as well. Where will you be staying? My sister just got back in March with her new four (they already had seven before going) and so she's been helping me prepare for the six weeks that we will have to be there. I wish you all the best and look forward to reading more about your adoption story - Mary Jane

Marsha, congratulations! Was it a total of 14 weeks in locating a child once CEJA received your paperwork? Are either you or your spouse Brazilian citizens? I'm told that priority is given to Brazilians living in Brazil and it seems foreigners have to wait such a long time.

No, we had already located our daughter prior to sending our paperwork to CEJA. We went through an agency. We waited 14 weeks to get our approval to adopt our little girl. My husband and I are both American. The little girl we are adopting is 3 years old. We were able to get her so young because she is considered special needs.

I lived most of my life in Curitiba (have since moved to the US). Although I can't help with adoption info in Curitiba, pretty much everything else I can. You will find beautiful weather in November/December so I hope you will find to enjoy some sightseeing and absolutely wonderful cuisine. Send me a PM with questions if there is anything specific you want to know.
Best of luck! |
