Here is previous info, but I think this might have changed. I have reason to believe my sister was born in the midwest or in the Chicago area in addition to the locations listed below. Also, I have been unable to confirm date of birth legally. The info below was entered in April 2002
You were born 6/2/62 in Rocky Mount NC, Newport News VA, or Norfolk VA. You were removed from birthmom in 3/63 and placed with adopted family 4/63. Adoption was finalized 4/64. I do not want to upset anyone, but I would like to discuss medical history. I am also adopted through an open situation in Rocky Mount NC. The State of Virginia has a “Confidential Intermediary” search program that will locate and contact birth relatives:

Identifying Information: Identifying information is provided through the confidential intermediary system with the approval of the Commissioner of Social Services.

Confidential Intermediary: Adopted adults age 18 or older may use the confidential intermediary system to search for birth parents. For those adoptions finalized after July 1, 1994, the birth parents and birth siblings can use the confidential intermediary system to search for an adopted adult age 21 or older and adoptive parents of adopted adult under age 18 may use system to search for birth relative(s).

Contact: For non-identifying information and for use of the confidential intermediary system, contact the Virginia Department of Social Services in Richmond at (804) 692-1290.

Requesting Identifying Information: Identifying information is provided on the original birth certificate, which is released according to the provisions below.

Requesting an Original Birth Certificate: An adopted adult can request a copy of the original birth certificate. At this time the Commissioner of Human Services will attempt to locate the birth parents to obtain consent to release the original birth certificate. If each birth parent is located and consents are given, the original birth certificate will be released. If there is no reply or contact with the birth parents, for adopted adults adopted before August 1, 1977, the adopted adult must petition the court for release of the original birth certificate. If the adoption was finalized on or after August 1, 1977, then the original birth certificate will be released to the adopted adult if the birth parents have not filed an access veto.
