girl born 2-4-66 Jacksonville FL but adoption was in NY ISO BMthr&Bfthr

I was born in Jacksonville Florida on February 4, 1966.
The adoption papers, given to me by my adopted parents, say my natural mothers name is/was Donna L. Barker.

I was adopted at a Term of the Family Court of the State of New York, County of Bronx. The adoption was finalized October 10, 1966. The Attorneys involved were, Joseph Black of Black & Collyer in Florida and Joseph Spencer in NY

I was also given a letter from the Jacksonville Florida lawyer's office [Black & Collyer], to my adoptive parents, dated January 11, 1966 says;

BABY DUE JANUARY 23, 1966:

NATURAL MOTHER-- is 19 years old, 5'2" tall, 130 lbs, has light brown hair, blue eyes, was never married, has one brother, is of Irish-English racial extraction with some Indian, was a high school graduate, was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company, is Protestant and had a normal medical history.

NATURAL FATHER--Is 26years old is 5' 11" tall' weighs 180 lbs, has black hair, brown eyes, is of Anglo-American racial extraction, is in construction work, is nice looking (according to natural mother), is from Jacksonville FL and West Virginia, he is married but separated from his wife (again this was all in 1965/1966) My adopted parents were in the hospital when I was born. They took me back to NY 2 or3 days later.

My adopted parents were in the hospital when I was born. They gave their information to the nurse in the hospital, so their names are on what I believe to be my original birth certificate. They took me back to NY 2 or3 days later.

I can’t register in NY States adoption registry because I was born in Florida. Florida says they think the adoption is illegal because there is no amended birth certificate. They say the one I have is the original. I don’t understand how this could be. If the names of my adopted parents were on my original birth certificate why would they have to adopt me at all? I’m so confused!

I always thought my birth certificate looked kind of incomplete! Same lawyers, in NY and FL, and born in Jacksonville! Interesting! Have you found out anything else?

Hi . I believe we do have amended birth certificates. The problem is the originals are now in NY where the adoption took place. [I THINK]. These lawyers seem to have worked together alot. The lawyers in FL based thier whole practice on adoption. As did Joseph Black. I didn't find out which hospital yet. It was one of two.
I found my natural mother last month!!!!! Unfortunatly she died in 1998. I contacted her brother. He did know about the adoption. After he received my e-mail he called me. He was very happy to hear from me. He actually said," Julie, this is your Uncle Jimmy!" I was in shock, to say the least. I may be able to help you a little if you are searching. Contact me via E-mail if you like. What is your birthday? Do you know anything about your B-mom or dad? I was lucky, but you may be too. I had 'Search Angle' help. I can contact her to see if she can help you too. If you wan't. Let me know.

Lightbulb found mine!

I have just recently found my birth family...like just three days ago. The first thing I did was get unidentifying information from the place that adopted you out. Like the Health Dept. or DHS from that state. Then I petitioned the courts to open my records and copy the contents and mail to me. The judge has to approve this. It's happening more and more these days. Then I found my mother and fathers names...I started with the social sec. death index and found that my father was already passed. I called the library from the city in which he died, and they mailed me an obituary. Which in turn, had my 1/2 sisters/brothers and full sisters names and place of residence at the time of death. Now we are in contact by email and phone. It's awesome.
I suggest you start at the beginning and work your way forward. If you need more suggestions, let me know.
Good luck... Janna/Oklahoma mumof2bys@aol.com
