My name is Christina Almonte and I’m writing on behalf of my mother.
Her name is Joann.

My mother was with Catholic Charities and then it was believed she was
At the Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn, NY (run by Catholic Charities we believe).
She was adopted by an Italian Couple from Valley Stream, NY. There last name
was Garaventa.

In 1992 she wrote to the Angel Guardian Home trying to find information
On her birth moth. The Angel Guardian Home sent her a letter with
what is called ‘non-identifying’ information on it.

It said her birth date was 9/29/1951 but, that she was placed at Angel Guardian
Home on 11/29/ 1951. She has wondered why there was a 2 month gap there.

They also provided her with the name Sicilia. They could not tell her who assigned this name or
if this name belonged to her birth mother. Or if this was the correct spelling. They said she was
called Joann Sicilia at the home. When you mentioned the name Cecelia (Spelled differently),
I got the chills, as maybe the Home took that name and turned it into a last name. I could be
completely wrong, but, we have forever wondered about that name.

The letter said that my mother weighed 5 lbs 1oz at birth. Again, we are not sure if
Any of the info they provided is accurate or to be true.

The other information provided to my mother by the Angel Guardian home described her birth mother
as being of Italian decent, 5’ 3, 150 lbs(at time of birth) , dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and
Light olive complexion. I should tell you also that this is exactly what my mother looks like as well.
My mother has always had a beautiful olive complexion and looks much younger than her age.
She looks very European and always is asked if she is Italian or Spanish. She is about 5 ‘1 in height.

It also mentioned that her birth mother was Catholic, and worked as a factory worker.

They said that the birth mother did not list the birth fathers last name. But, that the father was
Believed to be 6 ‘tall, husky, black hair, brown eyes, olive complexion.

They also provided a little more information that I could provide. Including information about the
Birth mother’s parents.

Now, I must say that we are unsure if any of this information is completely true or had been
Changed, altered, etc , we were just excited that The Angel Guardian Home actually sent
her this. It has always been something for my mother to hold on to.
