I recently did an open adoption with my son Damien a few days ago. The adoption family is including me into their family so that he will grow up knowing that I am his biological mother. But, the other day the Adoptive mom asked me what I would like him to call me when he's able to talk. I have thought long and hard about this and cant think of anything really. I was wondering if any of you had an idea or a subject that I could start from?! Let me know please and thank you!

First of all, congratulations on the birth of your son, and I love the name Damien!

Well, you DO have some time to think about this (haha!)....I am an adoptive parent in a fairly open relationship with birth family and thought that I would have to "know" all the answers right away....You don't!

But if you know what you would like Damien to call you, maybe his aparents can start referring to you as that right from the getgo? Would you prefer your first name only? Mama "first name"? I think it is really what you feel comfortable with.

I call DD's birth mother by her first name and expect that DD will too at least while she is young. Maybe as she gets older, she'll just call her "mom." (For example, I call my MIL "mom" sometimes!).

My daughter calls me Jenna. It will be up to her to choose a name if she wants to in the future.
