Anyone watch SVU the other day?
HUGE Gigantic kudos to the writer of SVU this past week. Huge.
Ok, I watch a lot of L&O and every single time, they butcher the topic of adoption…but this time, I was really impressed. The topic of the show wasn’t adoption…it was about a man who was serial raping women in an attempt to get as many of them pregnant as he could. He succeeded twice and one lady committed suicide because of it, it was very sad. Anyway, one lady had been dealing with infertility for a long time and she suddenly got pregnant and everyone was happy – what she wasn’t telling people was that she was pregnant with the rapists baby… The court required DNA blah blah blah and in the end, the father (husband) found out that he wasn’t the father, that the rapist was and Stabler tells him, “You have to stick by her, you can’t make her (get ready here, I mean it) place her child for adoption, she will live with that pain for the rest of her life!” /gets up off floor. That is, quite possibly, one of the most respectful dialogues about adoption that I have ever seen…and certainly, the acknowledgment of pain is certainly a step in the right direction! As someone who routinely tunes out when the topic is adoption, I am impressed! It was handled with such class and respect! Kudos to NBC and L&OSVU

I noticed that, too.
It was a very thought-provoking episode. I was trying to put myself in that woman's place and wondering what I'd do. Maybe worth sending a "thumbs-up" to Adoptive Families magazine.

Oh, I wish I'd seen it. I get SO frustrated with the way the entertainment media deals with adoption, it would be refreshing to see someone actually use the correct terminology.
Interestingly enough, "Criminal Minds" did a story last week about a serial rapist who was trying to get women pregnant, too. He tracked his victims through an infertility clinic that sold names, etc. to some on-line marketing company or some such.
