Just Had to Share.
I went in for my first post-placement counseling session Friday and I just have to say that I love my counselor/adoption lady (I really don't know what to call her.She was who we talked about the adoption with, signed the papers with, and now she's my counselor). We obviously talked about a lot of stuff and I gave her some things to give to Johnathan's aparents. But it was some of the stuff that we talked about that wasn't directly related to my feelings about the adoption that made me like even more.
I had brought in the pictures from the hospital to show her, unfortunately when I got them developed I didn't have the money to get doubles made to give to Johnathan's aparents. After looking through the pictures she asked me if I wanted to pick out some for her to copies made of of or if I wanted her to get copies of the whole roll! I told her that getting copies of all of them made would be amazing and left the negatives with her. If it wasn't for her we wouldn't have the pictures in the first place (she bought us a disposable camera while we were at the hospital) and now she's paying for copies of the pictures. She also told me that she's going to go see Johnathan and his aparents Monday night and that she would send me an email when she got into work Tuesday and tell me how they're doing. I honestly think that I wouldn't be doing as well as I am if it weren't for her. One of these days I'll definately have to get her a gift or something to show my appreciatation. One thing that I found out Friday that really surprised me was that she's really big on adoption reform and less adoptions in general, even though that's her job. She totally supports open records and adoptee rights, highly encourages open adoptions and tends to not work with couples that don't want an open adoption on some level, and encourages her adoptive parents to tell the kids that are adopted from the get go and tends to lecture those that want to wait. I'm so glad that she's young and won't be retiring anytime soon. Sorry for the babling, but I was so happy and wanted to share with someone. |

It is so important to have a counselor that you like and are comfortable with. I'm glad you have that source of support!

Sunshinemommy,
You have made my day even though you don't know me. Adoption agencies have come along way and that is so good to know. All the best, Dickons |
