Birthmother age 60 not coping well
I just found out my mother gave up a child for adoption in the late 1960's. She has kept this secret from her family and friends her entire life. My mom is devistated that I found out. During the late 60's many young girls gave up their children for adoption and from the research I've been conducting, there was little or no counseling. My mother is devistated that I found out and is not coping well at all. I need to find her a support group or therapy in the Bay Area to help her through this. Or, if anyone out there knows of books, websites, etc. That would be great.

A book I read that was really supportive for me was 'The Girls Who Went Away', it will help your mom realise that she is not alone!
She's welcome here of course, and will find loads of support, but it's not untypical that she won't want to share here. I'm so glad that you are working to support her! Hopefully someone else here will be able to help you find support groups. Good luck! By the way, feel free to ask more questions and so on here yourself, maybe we can help you help her and help YOU if you need it! |
