Examples of the General Public Not "Knowing" About Adoption/Birth Parents
Twice now in one month, I have been caught off guard by adoption terminology being used by the general public to mean something else.
To be fair, they're not the "normal" terms accepted by society. But I still got a chuckle. The first was a blog about the spouses of those running for President and referred to them as, instead of First Lady's (they made mention of not having a title for Bill), but as First Mother's. I laughed out loud. Today I came across a popular blogger's account on another site. She called herself "eMom," which many are beginning to use as the shorthand way of saying "expectant mother considering placement" as potential birth mother seems to be falling by the wayside. Anyway, I'm just amused. The world doesn't acknowledge us or what we like to be called and in doing so, they give me a chuckle. ![]()
