Ok, I just saw an ad on TV for a movie called Juno... has anyone seen it? Obviously the 30sec clip I saw cant cover the whole thing, but it left me feeling really unsettled.
From what I saw its a comedy about this girl who gets pregnant from a one night stand with a friend, and she decides to put the child up for adoption. It might not be too bad, but like I said, it left me feeling really uneasy. I would really love to hear a review from people connected to adoption (aparents and birthmoms). Thanks guys! |

I really want to see it because of the cast and the fact that it's gotten great reviews, but I think it might have to be a pay per view rental for me! It's just one of those things I feel I should watch alone. Like totally alone. Just in case

I hear you... I just caught a trailer on TV yesterday. I was thinking... "Wot?" ...
Although I haven't seen it, it makes me wonder if it is a response to August Rush... movies, like art, tend to play off, or respond to, other works. I think I need to watch them both at home also... Susan |

Juno was made before August Rush I believe.

I rent a lot of movies rather than make a fool of myself when I'm out!

A) The birth-first parent blog has been covering the movie. I refuse to see it because it basically looks like trash.
B) Juno was finished before August Rush. Juno was released at a film festival in September 07. August Rush was released at a film festival in October 07. Release dates in theaters have nothing to do with what was finished first. Many movies, for example, were shelved indefinitely after 9/11. One of Meg Ryan's movies sat on the shelf for a year after production was finished because of other problems. C) Adoptee blogger Viet-K (google) contacted the writer for information on whether any research beyond her status as an adoptee's wife was put into the movie and received absolutely no response. I hold nothing the writer has done previously in high regard and have no reason to believe that this movie, despite featuring Jennifer Garner, will make me view her work any differently. It was originally set to release on Munchkin's birthday (yesterday). Edited to add: Juno won't be in ALL theaters until January. It's only in limited release right now which is why they're hitting the television circuit hard with their trailer.

Thanks for the link to the blog ... I keep forgetting to read the blogs...
Given the choice between two fantasy tales, I think I'll stick with August Rush ... when it comes out on DVD where I can watch it at home. I continue to see the trailers for Juno on TV, and I still think, "Wot?" Think I'll turn the TV off, too... argh... Susan PS: Congrats and best wishes with your baby... |

Thanks for the thoughts Jenna. I have heard it's supposed to be a comedy, which seems odd to me. Will be interesting to see how they pull that off considering the subject matter.

I saw the preview at the theater couple of months ago. I was not thrilled. There is so much emotion in giving birth and relinquising a child. I don't think I will go see it. I don't think there is anything funny about the topic.

Yeah, I think its the "comedy" aspect that has me upset. There is nothing about the process that could even be remotely considered Comedy.

I have been debating on whether or not I will be seeing it. I think I will just wait until it is released on DVD and then add it to my Netflix list and watch at home.
Some for August Rush.

I actually saw August Rush in theatres, and IMO was a very good movie. It didnt really touch on adoption so much as searching for a lost child... but at least its not offensive. You probably would end up bawling your eyes out (I almost did) but at least you wont be fuming and demanding your money back.
