I have just received an invitation for graduation from a child whom I assumed was fathered by another man. His mother and I dated, broke up and she dated another man. She turned up pregnant. When the baby was born, she married someone else who adopted him. There has been no contact for 18 years. Now this boy may want to know if I am his father. Should I contact the adopted father to see what he suggest I do now? There would have to be paternity tests to confirm. Then what?

Contacting the adoptive father is a good idea. It would probably really comforting for the child to know if you are the birthfater or not. This may be a confusing time for you, but there may be some questions on both your parts that may want to be answered. Best of luck to you.
