Smile Birthmoms....What Song Is "Your" song?

I was just wondering, for those of you who have one, what song did you think of at your time of placement, as "your song" about or to your child(baby), and if you have one now, is it still the same or do you have another that brings back memories or thoughts of your bchild?

For me, in 86 when my daughter was born and there were two songs that made me think of her...
One was "I miss you" by Klimaxx and the other was "I will always Love you" by Dolly Pardon...and of course the remake by Whitney
(of course these still make me cry even today)

Now I have a couple of others that take me back and make me wonder...
"Ever the same" by Rob Thomas
and "Voice inside my head" by the Dixie Chicks...thanks to some recommendations by others
I know that not all the lyrics make sense, but they hit home for me...just thought it'd be nice to share
Looking forward to hearing yours too!

There isn't just one. Right now there is:
Voice Inside My Head : Dixie Chicks
Through Glass : Stone Sour
The Rose: Bette Midler

and I really don't remember alot of songs from when I placed J so these are it.

For me the two songs were, Somewhere out There from Linda Rhondstad, and Separate Lives Phil Colins, The second song was actually playing as the govt, worker came in to tell me my son was at that moment a ward of the court. Since meeting my son, he cant believe how connected the songs are to our situation.

Lisasue Good Question!

I hope it's ok that I as an amom answer for my children's first mom .............

Her song to our son is "One More Day" by Diamond Rio. Each and every time I (And she) hear it, I cry, still, five years later. We were in the car together on the way to the hospital for her to deliver our daughter and when it came on the radio, I pulled over and the two of us just bawled in each other's arms.

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didnt ask for money
Or a mansion in malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you

Chorus

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe Id be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

First thing Id do, is pray for time to crawl
Then Id unplug the telephone
And keep the tv off
Id hold you every second
Say a million I love yous
Thats what Id do, with one more day with you

Chorus

Leave me wishing still, for one more day
Leave me wishing still, for one more day

I have a few:

Hey You by The Clarks
(pittsburgh band)

If you're gonna jump
Hey you, hang on
If you feel like giving up
Hey you, hang on

I won't forget today
The sun is bright the sky is blue
The pain will go away
In another year or two

If you got a phone
Hey you, call home
If you got a voice
Hey you, rejoice

I won't forget today
The sun is bright the sky is blue
I won't forget to pray
Day is night the world is new
The pain will go away
In another year or two
In a hundred years or two
(At end chorus) In a thousands years or two

If you're gonna fly
Hey you, don't cry
You gotta live to die
Hey you, goodbye

And Stay or Leave by Dave Matthews (solo):

Maybe different, but remember
Winters warm there you and I,
Kissing whiskey by the fire
With the snow outside
And when the summer comes
The river swims at midnight
Shiver cold
Touch the bottom, you and I
with muddy toes

Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you should
It was good, as good goes
Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you did

Wake up naked drinking coffee,
Making plans to change the world
While the world is changing us...
It was good good love.
You used to laugh under the covers
Maybe not so often now
But the way I used to laugh with you
Was loud and hard

Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you should
It was good as good goes
Stay or leave
I want you not to go
But you did

So what to do
With the rest of the day's afternoon, hey
Isn't it strange how we change
Everything we did
Did I do all that i should

That I could'a done

Remember we used to dance
And everyone wanted to be
You and me
I want to be too
What day is this
Besides the day you left me?
What day is this
Besides the day you went?

So what to do
With the rest of the day's afternoon, hey
Well isn't it strange how we change
Everything we did
Did I do all that I could?

Remember we used to dance
And everyone wanted to be you and me
I want to be too
What day is this
Besides the day you went babe
What day is this?
Besides the day you left me
What day is this?

And, also by Dave Matthews (solo), Baby:

Baby, It's alright
Stop your cryin' now

Nothing is here to stay
Everything has to begin and end
A ship in a bottle won't sail
All we can do is dream that the
wind will blow us across the water
A ship in a bottle set sail

Baby, It's alright
Stop your cryin' now

There was a weakling man
who dreamed he was strong as a hurricane
A ship in a bottle set sail
He took a deep breath and blew across the world
he watched everything crumble
woke up a weakling again

Some might tell you there's no hope in hand
just because they feel hopeless
but you don't have to be a thing like that
You'll be a ship in a bottle set sail

Baby' It's alright stop your cryin' now
It's alright so stop your cryin' now

You'll be a ship in a bottle set sail

I used to sing the last one to her while she was still in the womb. Sigh.

Breathe - Melissa Etheridge

I played the fool today
I just dream of vanishing into the crowd
Longing for home again
Home, is a feeling I buried in you

I'm alright, I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe

And I can't ask for things to be still again
No I can't ask if I could walk through the world in your eyes
Longing for home again
Home, is a feeling I buried in you

I'm alright, I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe
I'm alright, I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe

My window through which nothing hides
And everything sees
I'm counting the signs and cursing the miles in between Home

Home, is a feeling I buried in you, that I buried in you

I'm alright, I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe
I'm alright, I'm alright
It only hurts when I breathe, when I breathe
Yeah, it only hurts when I breathe, when I breathe
Oh,it only hurts when I breathe

Heart "Truly" and especially "My Endless Love" by Lionel Ritchie

My songs for my dear daughter when I placed her back in 1984 were "Truly and "My Endless Love" by Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross. These spoke in Heeeeeaps how I felt for my daughter.

I'm truly, truly in love with you girl,
I'm truly, truly head over heals for you love..
I need you....and with your love I'm free...
(A deeply emotional song)...cried and cried

Your eyes your eyes,
They tell me how much you care...
Ohhhh yesss...you will always BEeeeeee...
My Endless Love.. (deeply beautiful child with enormous, gorgeous eyes)

Neither of these songs were to be looked upon as My daughter caring for me...but...how Much I cared for her.

Also --

A Christmas Song by Karen Carpenter

Christmas cards have all been sent...
The Christmas rush is through,
I have only one gift to give..
Especially fooooorrr youuu...

Merry Christmas darling
We're apart it's true,
But..everyday in my dreams
I'm Christmasing with youuu..

Holidays are joyful
There's always something new...
something or other
somthing or other!
I'm Christmasing with you..

All the lights on my tree,
They sing to me,
They sing it everyday...
Logs on the fire
Fill me with desire
To see you and to saaaaay...

That I WISH you a Merry Christmas
Happy New Year, too
Just one wish on this Christmas Eve..
I wish I were with you..
I wish I were with you...

Merry Merry Merry Christmas...
Merry Chirstmas...
Darrrrrrrlllllinnnngggg.....

Now, I'm gonna goo cryyyy....how I love her.

Such great songs!

I'm one of those people who always analyzes songs, I have a song for everything and everyone, LOL!! So I'm loving this post

When I placed "Tears in Heaven" was the huge cry song, my roommate had broken up with her high school sweetheart so we played that on loop the few weeks before I had my DD.(we weren't the most happy room in the dorm, LOL!) That song is special to my daughter's a-mom too, I remember talking about it with her while she was with me in the labor room, so that song always gets me. Especially at that time of year.

"I Remember You " by Sarah McLaughlin is another one that hit me when it came out, especially since at that time, I wasn't very open with my feelings, I was still holding back, so that line that goes "Funny how you feel so much, but cannot say a word." that really resonated with me.

A few years ago, when I first started to toy with the idea of reestablishing contact, "One Thing" by Finger Eleven had just come out and it used to make me thing of my DD. Also "Pictures of You" by the Cure, because that's all I had for so long was just her pics of her first year.

Now that I've started contact with her a-mom , there are a few songs that remind me. Most of the Fray album, but there is this one song called "Trust Me" and the chorus basically goes "When you're older, you will understand" That lyric stands out for me. Also the Nick Lachey song "What's Left of Me", everytime I heard that song this summer it reminded me of DD. And yes, Tom Petty's "The Waiting is the Hardest Part": Love that song right now

That's just off the top of my head! Give me a day or two, I could comeup with more, I 'm sure, LOL

I have quite a few songs and seem to find new ones as I go too.

The ones I think of right off though are:

In My Daughter's Eyes by Martina McBride
The Distance by Evan and Jaron
Somewhere Out There from American Tale

and I have a lot of others, but those are the ones that come to mind right off the bat.
