Sue,

This thread was originally started in September of 2003. The original poster had her baby and relinquished it to a couple who promised open adoption. Unfortunately, and sadly very commonly, the adoptive couple closed the adoption within the first year. If you read the original poster's posts, you will see her asking for advice as she attempted to build a good relationship with the adoptive couple. However, despite her attempts to not step on toes, etc., they closed the adoption with no explanation. They just stopped responding (and one of them worked with and were introduced to her by her parents!!). I hope those people come to their senses and show some compassion and follow through on their promises.

If wishes were money I'd be a millionaire ..

To close the adoption in the first year, liars, cheats, do anything, say anything just to steal someones baby.. I know open adoption can be hard for a first time parent..

But, the most values part of us is "our given word". If a person can't keep their word, then they should walk away. The adoptee will find out one day, that his or her parents, in esscence "stole the adoptee with lies"

harsh thoughts, yes, but that is basically how I feel.. in voluntary adoptions..

State TPR is usually based on some real reason, abuse, drugs, crimminal behavor. Those reason can be hard to deal with. In those cases I wouldn't keep an adoption open either. But, I would always keep contact information for later. After all some people do change.
