Reading about the experiences of other birthmoms in the quest for reunion and the long and painful recovery will help you to prepare yourself for an eventual reunion.

Keep in mind that seeing or hearing from your son is not going to be the miraculous panacea that will heal your wounded psyche` ... Reunion is just the beginning of a wildly emotional roller coaster ride that will sometimes leave you exhausted, disappointed and shaken. It takes a lot of time and stamina to recover from the years of loss and the shock of reunion, and will take even more time, stamina and patience to build a relationship with him.

I also suggest that you contact the International Soundex Reunion Registry (P.O. Box 2312, Carson Nev 89702, PH 702-882-7755) and post your information with them so they can check for a "match." Your son may already be registered.

You should also check Pat Dorner's Forum for hints on conducting a Search, just in case you have to resort to this method.

Hugs and Good Luck,
CAROL BIRD, Birthfamily Support
