looking for half-brother in Virginia b. 1931 or 1932

I found out very late in life that mom had had a child before getting married. On her death bed she was reaching out for him. All her life she anguished over having to give him up. I would love to be able to share this with him and to be able to let him know how much he was loved. I am sure he felt her love. Any info would be greatly appreciated. She told me the fathers name if wanted. Harriet Ray

However, if he told his spouse and children (if any) that he was adopted, they might have tried to get information. I guess the best place to start would be to contact the Adoption specialist at the Dept. of Social Services at 730 E Broad St, richmond, VA 23219-1849, phone 804-692-1290 As far as I can see, Virginia doesn't have a passive registry, so I suggest that you post on Reunion Registries, starting with The International Soundex Reunion Registry, which is not on line, but is the oldest and largest Reunion Registry in the world. Send a self addressed Stamped envelope to the ISRR at P.O. box 2312, Carson City, Nev 89702-2312. Enclose a note asking for a Registration Form. When you complete and return the form, they will run a check to see if anyone has posted matching information. If not, they will post your information. You can find a directory of on-line registries at http://www.adoptionregistry.com Virginia Search Angels are volunteers who will check out records, etc. for you. Some charge a small fee to cover expenses. The Virginia Search Buddies and Angels can be found at http://members.aol.com/deitrahs/VASA.html Also, check out our search resources ... http://www.adopting.org/supporta.html and http://www.adopting.org/serch.html. We have a Search Expert here in the Experts Group of Forums. Her name is Colleen buckner and you'll find her Forum in the same area you found mine: http://www.adopting.org/supports.html You can get additional support by writing to the Forums and Boards, and dropping in on the Chats. The Chatrooms are at http://www.adopting.org/chat/ I have one for Birthfamilies on Monday Nights at around 8:30 till 11 PM EASTERN STANDARD TIME. You can find me in either the LOBBY or in the BIRTHFAMILY CHATROOM. Please keep me posted about your progress and feel free to contact me any time you need me. Hugs, Carol
