Hey i'm Rachel and i have a toddler in open adoption. Ever since she was born its just been me with her her b dad couldnt handle everything so as soon as he terminated his right he left. Well up until a few short weeks ago he emailed me asking to talk to him. We did i got alot of my chest and he explained his side of things. He ask to be back in aria's life threw pictures and updates i had no problem with that but i wanted her a parents permission first. They are on vacation right now so its a waiting game right now but aria's a mom had no issue's with it so i doubt her a dad will ethier. If he ever want a face 2 face visit with her i told him that he would have to talk to them about it that's something i wont get involed in i believe he needs to explain things to them. But he does have my support. A few years ago i did this video project with a friend we ask eachother question talk about where we see ourselves just life in general it was really fun ( still have the tape). I wanted to do that with aria i wanted both her birthparetns to be in this i wanted him to try and explain things to her and i want to show her just how much we love her and give her the tape when she old enough to really understand. So a few questions first one being does anyone think that this is a good idea do you think she would like it.

The second what would you ask what would you say or what to know being in aria's place. I wanna show her that us not loving her was father from the truth and that she is loved frm all sides we care about her. If anyone responds to this that would be so great thanks.

Hey Sparky,

I think this is a wonderful idea! Someone had actually introduced me to the idea of writing down my beliefs for my kids to read.

I am a bmom so can't really say what kind of questions she might ask but I think that your doing this tape speaks volumes to how much you love her and I think kids pick up on those things and understand them.

I LOVE the idea!

I have a good friend/college roomie who is an adoptee in reunion and we were just talking the other day. She was curious about them as people-their likes, dislikes, family members things like that, so maybe you can include some of your personal "stuff" in the video.

I am in the middle of gathering family stories and pictures for my son. All of the stuff I wish I had growing up about my first family basically.

Stories about Gramma's and Grampa's and Aunts and Uncles and Mom and Dad and my brothers. Sadly, there won't be much about my first family, but there will be what I know.

I'm also going to do a family tree for him. It will be convoluted, but it belongs to him.

Well, I think it is a great idea to do a video. I wish my son's mom did that. And I think I will ask my next birthmother to do the same.

I guess what I would like to see is the first few mintues of a close up with you looking into the camera just talking about you, your childhood, your likes and dislikes, what you want to do with your life. Then of course go into the story of how your child came to be and explain your side of the story. Walk around with your camera and film family gatherings explaining who they are and ask them to say something nice.

I'm so gald everyone loves the idea. You guys have really given me some great suggestions. I'm so gald that her birthfather agreed to do this cause i know he feel so much guilt for leaving for that year and never seeing her. He loves her that much i know is true so for him to get on camera and express that to her is a really big thing. We just want her to ahve something to know us and remember us by in case we ever lost contact. We love aria so very much and i cant wait to do this yay!!!
