Janey,
So funny! You got some talent so don't get discouraged if you get rejection letters. There are some very famous writers who were turned down initially. Also try self publishing because I'd love to read your book. Once I had this friend who told me she wanted to write a children's book. Well, I'd always wanted to illustate a children's book so we set about doing that. She said she had the book in her head and she just needed an artist draw the picures.I completed about 8 pictures to her specifications. She jots down a few lines and I said"OK, good start, but I can't do any more pictures until you finish" she says, "oh, I am finished". I was so mad at her. I told her no one would publish such a book. I mailed some of the illustrations to some publishing companies so maybe I wouldn't have totally waisted my time and heard back from a few. They were nice enough,"Not what we are looking for at this time" they'd say. I could have kept up the search for the right company but I lost interest after about 3 tries. Don't do that!

Spoiling your inner artist child and how are you doing TAW?

Hiya! I thought I'd revive this thread a bit and see how others are doing with things.
My first question is:
Is there anything you're doing to spoil your inner artist child?
For example, I've decided it's quite ok to splurge on blueberries for my morning cereal. It's a little thing, but makes her HAPPY!

As far as how I'm currently doing TAW. I started off being so good! Doing all the exercises, morning pages and artist trips.
Now I'm reading a chapter here and there, letting it seep in a bit, doing some thinking about the exercises, but not so much work. I've been doing morning pages most mornings, and I definately do artist's field trips.

It's what feels good for me right now. How about you others??

OK, you got me. My big thing is ice cream. Can't get enough. I really don't need all those calories so it is an indulgence. At least blueberries are full of antioxidents so you can feel pretty good about that. Homemade ice cream is the best. It still tastes like when I was a kid. Just wondering, does anyone have a food they loved as a kid that just isn't the same as an adult? Mine is waffles. My mom used to make the best waffles and my sister and I were always trying to reproduce them. She even went so far as to buy an old fashioned waffle iron thinking that would do it. It didn't. Our mom used fresh churned buttermilk , butter and fresh eggs from our chickens. I don't know if that was the secret. It was just a taste we couldn't describe but when we remembered we both knew what we meant.

I haven't done the pages in a few days. I have been having fun with that camera and have gotten some pretty good shots of rural, small town life. I really like the old buildings. The ones with the peeling paint, the loose bricks and the vines growing up the walls. I've got one I'm going to turn into a watercolor. One of my art instructors frowned on that sort of thing but my artist child don't care! I think it will be fun.

Hey guys!

Thought I'd do a quick post before I set off for "moving day"! Yuch!!

Hubby and I both share this similar artistic trait I guess you could call it. We spoil our inner artist child by putting up lovely fall displays in front of our house. Lots of pumpkins and pots of mums and big bails of straw with scarecrows sitting on them. We love that stuff!

In the winter at Christmastime we hang white lights outside and wrap the lightpost and shrubs in big red bows. When it snows it's soooo beautiful, those lights reflecting on the snow like diamonds! :-)

In the spring when it's warm we like to get outside and plant flowers and go for walks by the canal to take in all the different wildflowers.

In the summer we like to drive along Lake St. Clair checking out all the sailboats and the big frieghters out on the lake.

Taking in color and smells and sounds of life by the Great Lakes. :-)

Good stuff!

Love you guys!

OK,
One of the chapters in TAW talks about favorite childhood foods.

I'd say some of mine are:

Campbells Vegetarian Vegetable Soup (the alphabet soup! can't buy it here..)
Corn on the cob
Canned mandarin oranges
Baked potatoes with all the trimmings
Banana with brown sugar

And Holly I TOTALLY know what you mean. My brother still (at the age of nearly 45) eats Count Chocula, I tried some and nearly choked. Waaaayyyy too chocolaty.

Love your post Janey!

Jackie is on the mend...please don't worry. She had some type of virus that wiped out her energy levels. She did log on here a couple days ago for the first time. The doctors ruled out listeriosis and said it was some kind of "bug". I'm hoping she'll be able to start posting again soon. I imagine she's catching up on all the threads she's missed.

Jackie, we miss you, girl...sending healing energy and much love your way!

God can't work in THIS way? It feels not right.

I have sort of an interesting situation right now.
A few years ago someone here asked me what I WANT to do with my life...
I answered 'continue working in the quilt store, expand with teaching classes and so on'
She dismissed this as a 'hobby thing'
Well, I haven't been working in the shop, but my classes have continued, I've been doing more, this has been going great. I relate so much to this with TAW.
Well, now the opportunity to perhaps start working in the shop again has opened up. Great, you might think, BUT the reason is that a dear friend who is the owner's right hand person, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will be out of commission for a while (hopefully not too long).
So I offerred (because I want to help all parties involved) to work one day a week in the shop.
Thing is, on my ride back home tonight I started thinking, 'did I lay the seeds for this possibility when I had that conversation a few years ago?' and if that's the case...'what kind of god would give a friend of mine, a good good person something so horrible as cancer to give me my chance here?'

Sorry, I'm just wondering, after reading TAW, what do you guys think? Am I reading this wrong?
Does this post make ANY sense?
