Birth control failure rates-survey

I'd like to do a little informal survey just for my own curiosity.

Do you know where birth control failure rate statistics come from (yes/no)?

I already know the answer but had to dig for it so am curious about other people.

Peace,

JanetM

What I have discovered is the widely reported statistics on various failure rates are almost invariably from the Food and Drug Administration. I found this out when looking at my health care providers website which is Kaiser Permanente and questioning where they got the statistics they quote. Ultimately I found out that they use FDA statistics and I'm sure that many others also use those same statistics. Where does the FDA get these statistics you might ask? Clinical trials submitted to the FDA-for more info on this here's the link: http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/1997/babyguide.pdf

Given the fact that in my particular case I came to be a birthmother through the bfathers failed vasectomy (yep its confirmed through tests so nope I REALLY didn't cheat on him) I'm personally going to be VERY interested to followup on what clinical trials were used to determine THIS statistic. In my case since I found out that the frikkin adoption agency ASSUMED even FIVE months after my son's birth that I had cheated on the bfather based on statistics I will be finding out what clinical trial was used to determine these statistics. What I'm finding rather scary is that the more medical professionals I talk to the more I find out that most of THEM have no clue as to where the failure rates quoted come from.

Anyhoo just a little info for you when making a decision on your birth control should you base it on statistics.

Peace,

Janet
