Both my sister and I are adopted, from different birthparents. I find it funny when we meet new friends of our parents and they think we both look like them! I find it funny because I don't see it at all, but obviously some people do! We normally just agree with the person and then laugh about it later! Has anyone else had this experience?

Yes. I've had this experience more than a thousand times in the past 18 years of my life. But I actually kind of do look and act like my a-parents. I recently met my b-mom and b-sister, I don't look anything like them. Although my b-sister and I do share some of the same likes, and we've all shared the same life experiences. So mine has been something similar to yours.

When my Amom's father died, at his funeral reception/lunch this older woman walked up to me as I was standing near the entry way to the hall. Beside me was one of my cousins. I think I was just out of high school, late teens anyway.
This woman looks at me, says "you are so and so's daughter right"? I replied yes, I was her daughter. Then she snickered and said, "you have her nose". I looked at my cousin, she looked at me and we started to laugh until we cried. Of course I did not clue her in but I'll never forget it. I have two older adoptive brothers, none of us look alike (all from different families) and none of us have ANY, not even a close resemblance to our aparents. It is so strange. DebsW |

My sons are not biologically related at all...but since they are only 2 months apart in age, people always assume they are twins. Funny thing is that WE don't think they look like twins AT ALL! There is also never a question as to them being adopted.

Everyone assumes that all of us are related. In fact if you look at pictures the one you'd assume doesn't have any bio ties to my parents is the one that does, until you go back a generation and look at grampa. We get a laugh out of it too though

No one ever said I looked like my a-parents, but my brother is a different story. I was adopted, he wasn't, but we both have dark hair, brown eyes, and we're both left-handed. People told us our whole lives how much we look alike.

My 2 achildren are half siblings. One is blonde hair/blue eyes and the other is brown hair/brown eyes. We are constantly told that our son looks just like his dad and our daughter looks just like me. One day in our pediatricians office, a woman said to my dh "isn't it funny how HE looks just like you and SHE looks just like her mom?" He just smiled and answered "Ya' know, it IS funny because they both look just like their first mom and she doesn't look anything like us!"
Our names were called and he left her there with her mouth open looking very confused! It was pretty funny.......

I am the amom of a beautiful little girl...finally. I've got 3 bsons. A friend came up & said, "Oh, she looks just like you!" Me, thinking she knew that we were adopting Mya said, "Yeah, isn't it funny how that works." She mentioned that she didn't know I was pregnant, so I said, "Well, we're adopting her." and her jaw just dropped! But, Mya does kinda look like me, and she really resembles my youngest son with their big eyes and bright smiles.

All my life I have gotten, "you look just like your mom." Especially when my mom and I both wore glasses and our hair was cut the same. I would just laugh it off and sometimes shock them by telling them I was adopted.

All the time! My brother and I are also adopted from different birth parents, he looks just like my a-mom and I look similar to my a-dad. It's weird, but cool I guess. I have yet to meet my birth family and I am still deciding if I want to, but time will tell!

DH is adopted and looks ALOT like his (also adopted but unrelated) siblings....but not like either of his parents.
DH and I get all the time how much DD looks like me (especially) since we both have two "sets" of dimples. I personally don't "see" it (but I'm glad to hear it because she is gorgeous!!). |
