raising your own after adoption/foster care
i was in foster care until i was 16 and got emancipated. i am now 21 going on 22 and have a wonderful percious baby girl who is 2 and was wondering if anyone else has the fears of raising their kids above and beyond the normal "new parent" thing. i am afraid of anything in the world happening to her. i have more separation anxiety than she does. i am afraid that everyone will do to her what happened to me when i was a kid. if anyone has insight, raltions or what ever it would be nice to know i am not alone on this.

Keep Kissing That Baby
Sis, Congrats on your precious little bundle!! Your feelings are normal and understandable. With time your fears will ease as you find a brand new type of Parent/Child relationship.
As the daughter of an adoptee, my mother and I are very close. She had many similar fears that she used in a very positive way to raise us in a safe environment. When I was old enough to understand, she shared many of her experiences with me. Knowing about her past drew us closer together, gave me a whole new respect for my mom, and helped me to protect myself when it was time for me to venture out on my own. |
